Where do adults buy curtains?

Asked a similar question about beds and got some responses that changed how I bought mattresses! I have bought curtains from Dunelm, Next and John Lewis but am so bored by their offerings. Where does fabulous curtains?

I’ve bought mine from John Lewis and still love them.
Disclaimer: I’m definitely an adult.

🙄

I like Next for curtains.

They get them made bespoke. Expensive but worth every penny. You’ll have makers in your area if you ask around. They can advise on fabrics. If you have a look on Jane Clayton website they have thousands of fabrics to give you an idea, they have most brands but there are more.

Gcsunnyside23 · 18/01/2025 00:15

I usually go to Dunelm or next

Saisong · 18/01/2025 00:18

Dunelm if you have bog standard size windows.

Blinds Direct for made to measure. You can order free samples beforehand, and have blackout/thermal linings etc.

Dunelm

romanfriendsandcountrywomen · 18/01/2025 00:19

I had some Roman blinds made recently with material I purchased. Felt incredibly grown up!
The woman who made them came and fitted them as well. All in all it was about £400 more expensive than if I'd ordered them online (Roman blinds 'r us or similar!) BUT they look about 100% better. When she measured up she told me my measurements (that I'd planned to use online) were wrong because the thickness of the material would impact how they folded and sat next to each other and she was absolutely right. They fit perfectly next to each other now- ordered online they'd not have worked. Plus the material is gorgeous.
I asked on local Facebook and she came strongly recommended. The problem is once you open yourself up to selecting fabric it's a long process- ended up with a bag of about 40 samples!

For people who haven't read the OP.

Och what you rollin’ your eyes for? It’s a daft question - where do adults buy curtains ffs what children do you know that buy curtains. Jeez. Is adults code for ‘people with money and taste who can afford better than IKEA?’ If so then OP should say that instead of hiding that behind the word ‘adults ‘ as ‘code’ so they deserved the ‘same place as children’ comment. In my humble opinion!

I agree that so many are boring! So I usually buy fabulous fabrics and make my own, but I appreciate that’s not a skill everyone has. You could, though, find someone local who makes, and source your own fabric for them to use. Where I live in the country almost every village has someone who runs a little business making curtains for everyone - Facebook might be a good place to look.

PermanentlyTired03 · 18/01/2025 00:42

247curtains.com or curtains2go. Both make made to measure curtains with loads of designs and fabrics.

PlanetJungle · 18/01/2025 07:27

Go to a fabric shop they will have curtain makers on their books - alternatively, your local Facebook will have recommendations for local people who make curtains. Talking about books go to your library or local large bookshop for ideas on what is possible - trimmings pleating styles etc.

I had some made for an awkwardly shaped window just so someone else would take responsibility for sorting out the rail! I would highly recommend!
All my others came from Dunelm or second hand.

TianasBayou · 18/01/2025 07:34

I stalk eBay for fabulous heavy, lined, inter-lined curtains from high-end designers. Pre-owned obviously but can be an amazing bargain if you find a pair that fits.

It helps if you have a standard sized window to cover.

Mine were bespoke from a local company - my one big extravagance when I bought my flat but utterly worth it.

Nourishinghandcream · 18/01/2025 07:35

We use Dunelm M2M.
If you are bored with the wide range of fabrics available I don't know who else to recommend.

Adults???

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 18/01/2025 07:36

I buy fabric and make my own. It was only when I casually mentioned having done this at work that I learnt that most people don’t.

If you can get access to a sewing machine it’s pretty easy.

mitogoshigg · 18/01/2025 08:06

Dunelm for the last set. Making the living room ones myself as huge, fabric ordered online

shellyleppard · 18/01/2025 08:07

Facebook marketplace is always good if you don't mind second hand. IKEA do a good selection too

EdithStourton · 18/01/2025 21:13

If you have or can borrow a sewing machine it's not that hard to make basic ones yourself.

Or as a PP suggested, find someone local who can make them for you.

EmmaMaria · 18/01/2025 21:16

I moved recently and needed some new curtains but no time to make to shop (disabled so it's hard getting around). I turned to Amazon! I bought what I thought were cheap and cheerful to do for now. I don't ever want to part from them. They are fanstastic quality and make, and I paid very little. I was shocked, but there we go. Unexpected find.

ThoroughlyModernNotMillie · 18/01/2025 21:18

I make my own, I've never bought curtains or roman blinds in my life. I line and interline them and they look fantastic.

Noidea2024 · 18/01/2025 21:18

I would have said JL, but after getting a recent quote for made-to-measure curtains from there, I learned that only very rich adults buy their curtains there 😆
