Replacing En-Suite

Builder is booked in February half term to redo our en-suite, it's 20 years old and really needs it. We've chosen a B&Q bathroom set, I was going to go for the grey but now am thinking the soft pink could be nice? With a green subway tile in the shower. If the rest of the room is an off white I think they could match and not clash on each other? The furniture would be along one wall, the shower tiles the other? I've wanted the tiles for a long time but annoyingly ToppsTiles have stopped the exact green I wanted though this alternative works well too I think?

Wall the furniture sits on is 1700 so am thinking a 200 single door unit, 500 toilet unit, 600 sink unit and 300 single unit with a further 300 single unit above it on the wall. Storage has always been a problem so this should give us a decent amount.

The other wall will have a 1400 shower on it.

I'm so over grey. It's just so boring. Have the pink and green Wink

MiniCooperLover · 28/12/2024 16:37

I agree, I didn't love the grey but I thought it would be more 'sensible' but having seen the pink I am taken with it that's for sure and it's good value for bathroom furniture too.

Those green tiles are 😍

I was all set to say do the pink in place of grey, but actually, I think I'd do green and neutral, or pink and something less bold. Otherwise I think it will date really quickly. And ideally the green, but think you are set on the pink.

MulberryPeony · 28/12/2024 22:06

They are both going to date. Go for what you love. My grey bathroom was installed a decade ago and I still love it but I wouldn’t choose it again today iyswim.

MiniCooperLover · 29/12/2024 09:55

This bathroom furniture comes in dark grey, pale pink or dark green. It's the tiles I'm really keen on, the rest just has to fit in 😊

In that case the pink is the best choice. Pink bathrooms were popular in the middle of the last century, my grandparents had one. My parents thought it was terribly old fashioned but it was a warm and cheerful colour for a bathroom. Go for it!

MiniCooperLover · 30/12/2024 16:04

Went tile shopping today, looks like Toppstiles have put their prices up A LOT since we last looked. £100 a sq m ... I don't think so 🙈🙈🤔

B&Q have some lovely ones too and they’re half the price so am sure one of those will be great 👍

That dark green would look fabulous with white furniture and white gloss paint. I’m not sure the pink would show them up enough though it is nice.

MiniCooperLover · 30/12/2024 16:53

Yes I think it would but we've struggled to find good quality bathroom furniture to fit that space in pale colours up to now.

Builder came around to do final measure up as the furniture we like is in the sale and he found the walls behind each side of the shower have loads more space in the cavity's on either side so we can have a way bigger shower tray than we thought 👍👍

HURRAH! The en-suite furniture we wanted from B&Q finally came back into stock. All ordered thank goodness as builder is booked for February, was getting a little worried ....

What combination have you gone for, @MiniCooperLover ?

Complete agree everything dates, you could go for something safe and neutral and you probably will feel a bit meh about it - better to really love it - when it dates you won't care so much.

MiniCooperLover · 18/01/2025 08:08

SnowyIceSnow, we've gone for the pale pink and green tiles. The Topps Tiles are £100 sqm so sadly I've had to veer away from them and choose an alternative from Wickes which, while pretty, aren't 'as pretty' but they are £30 sqm so I'll get over it 😂

DH wouldn't come round to brushed nickel so we'll still have chrome fixtures and fittings which I'm hoping won't look too 'cold' with the pink?

Found another tile supplier and we've come to a compromise (secretly I'm very happy as the colour is lovely and I think I prefer them to the Topps so a result as these are better value) 😊👍

Oh FFS ... builder is coming on Monday, we've checked the B&Q delivery that we stacked in the dining room last week and half of it is the wrong fucking colour 🙈🙈 I've double checked my orders, supposed to be pink and we've got some pink, some grey.

What a nightmare!

MiniCooperLover · 11/02/2025 11:12

I rang them earlier, the store themselves refused to talk with me and said I had to call Customer Service. The lady at Customer Services (while very nice) was clearly reading from her script and just kept telling me it's all out stock now and they'll organise my refund for the incorrect pieces and when I said 'right but what about how I replace the incorrect pieces' she would pause her script and resume reading. So I've asked her to escalate it and ask someone to call me (though apparently that can't be guaranteed). So then I thought, right it's not ideal but not the end of the world, I've got the major stuff in grey - toilet, sink unit, smaller unit and tall unit. Lets just buy the end panels, plinth and door for the toilet. Except the bloody door panel for the toilet is not possible because the toilet itself is out of stock ..... oh FFS ..... Mind you if they try and retrieve the grey (as I didn't actually ask them to refund yet!) that'll be another interesting conversation.

If it weren't for the fact we won't be here I don't think I'd find it as stressful but we've got a builder booked for a week who we'll need to pay and at the moment no bloody bathroom to fit ... Unless I take the risk that the toilet panel comes back into stock ...

Oh no that is so fridyrating!

I feel your pain!

MiniCooperLover · 12/02/2025 22:26

Turns out this was not B&Q's issue but DH read all the boxes wrong, we didn't get sent grey furniture just grey carcasses and what goes on a carcass? Yep a coloured door. He tried to style it out by saying oh panic over ... I pointed out he caused the flipping thing in the first place 🙈🙈

Haha what a numpty. Definitely turn the packaging into a dog house and put him it.

MiniCooperLover · 23/02/2025 07:41

Very much still a building site and we are sleeping on the sofa bed as our bedroom is out of action, but all electrics are done, tiling is up (and half grouted) and builder needs to now start fitting in the bathroom furniture but you can see the shower taking shape 👍 The builder did not like my 'fiddly little tiles' 😂

What tiles are the ones you bought in the end?
