Curtains too short for living room?

Hi there, can I please ask an opinion. I've recently moved in to a new house. I got grey curtains online but I've been debating with myself on whether they're too short. My mum thinks they're not but I'm on the fence and think I'd prefer them longer. All thoughts welcome and appreciated!

I agree with you, they need to be just skimming the floor.

Mine don’t skim the floor and look fine - plus I can tuck them behind the radiator to keep in heat. My kitchen has floor length curtains over the patio doors which gives the cats the perfect foot attack hiding place!

I think they look fine

Thanks! I was leaning that way myself

They are in between, neither windowsill nor floor length.

They do look good. We have a cat also. It would keep them cleaner. Also, the living room isn't huge either, more smaller/standard size

Yes - I have to wash the kitchen ones a lot as they get hairy and occasionally my tabby likes to wee on them!

Ya, they're not too short either

Will any furniture go in front of them? I have curtains to the floor because I have a big window and a bay and it looks better than shorter curtains but I think because your windows and room isn’t huge the curtains look ok as they are

Thanks, ya, I.was considering that. My tv connection is the other side of the room but maybe i could put in 2 comfy chairs and a wooden table there or something

Christ, no. Curtains need to be skimming the floor. Those are too short. Fine if you absolutely must (cats or whatever) but it does not look good or right.

MumonabikeE5 · 07/12/2024 17:04

They are fine if your sofa is in front of them, but if not that’s too short. Sorry

dairydebris · 07/12/2024 17:06

The size of that window looks like a blinds situation rather than curtains. Roman maybe.

It was my initial reaction alright that they were too short. I could put them in a bedroom

I think curtains either need to touch the floor or be just below window ledge level.

Spagettifunctional · 07/12/2024 17:16

I think they are ok but curtains look best to the floor - but they are quite neutral and to my eye look ok

I haven't ruled out blinds yet either. I have an appointment with Hillarys for a home measurement for around Christmas. My sister told me though that she was quoted 1100 for her blinds and I need to get flooring etc also. Was thinking curtains might be more affordable..

They need to be window sill length or longer so I'd get them shortened if you have already bought them!

Doggymummar · 07/12/2024 17:20

I'm think blinds might be better, like this

This, but with the added thought that floor length curtains work better on floor length windows. We initially had floor length curtains on our bay, but it definitely looks better with blinds and the bay feels/is bigger

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 07/12/2024 17:32

I agree they need to be either skimming the floor or stop at windowsill or a tiny bit below the sill. They look a bit wrong as they are.

Reallybadidea · 07/12/2024 17:33

Not only would I have the curtains floor length, I would also raise the curtain pole if possible so that it is closer to the ceiling. It will make the ceiling look higher.

BigBoysDontCry · 07/12/2024 17:36

It's a personal thing. I like curtains to either be floor length or windowsill length. I'm not a fan of the in between look.

endofthecorridoor · 07/12/2024 17:41

Agree they look awful. If you can possibly replace them I would
Don't spend more money trying to hide them

Thanks for that. Believe it or not, the curtains are just below/at the window sill. It is a funny height. Maybe blinds would suit it better. Would look neater too since the room isn't too big
