Ours is definitely past its it’s best but a bit clueless as to where to purchase a new one. Current one is M&S. Not that great. The sections/squares that hold the filling are too large.

Ideally looking for down filled. Max spend £300 but hoping we could spend less.

Thank you in advance

Do you not like wool?

I would only be considering wool, not down, and an upgrade from my now ancient Soak & Sleep wool which has been excellent.

This article looks helpful; (for wool)

This is an old but informative MN thread:

That’s a relief! I was a bit afraid there was a very concrete reason why you couldn’t consider it.

I could never go back to not-wool. Always notice the difference, and generally don’t sleep as well, when I’m away from home under other people’s inferior duvets.

Mine is a Hungarian down duvet by Snuggledown. I love it, it's like a cloud. It's also machine washable.

It might sound a bit odd, but do you think the brand of a duvet makes a difference? I know the tog rating matters.

Last year, I bought a cheap 15 tog duvet, but now it's as flat as a pancake. I need to get a new one. But I'm not sure if I should go for a more expensive one. Does the brand or the price matter? Will a more expensive one last longer if I spend a bit more? I'm thinking of getting another 15 tog duvet.

I think you need to consider the exact materials used, provenance and manufacturing process.

I mean I’d pay more for something made with an organic cotton covering and wool gently taken from well fed and carefully tended Devon sheep than I would for something imported from the far east, with a poly-cotton cover and stuffed with un-attibutted wool from no one knows where. And it’s likely that particular brands will supply the former, and others the latter. But I wouldn’t take it for granted, I would check every bit of information provided.

Another vote for wool here. Mine is just a Fogarty, so didn’t cost the earth but I absolutely love it.

I am not a duvet expert but I can give you my opinion. Down is lighter and denser than feather. Get a duvet with 'cassettes' so that the filling doesn't clump. Get one with a good quality cover. Try to ensure the filling is ethically sourced.

I bought a goosedown duvet (an all-seasons one) 6+ years ago from Diamond Bedding & I'm very pleased with it.
They also had terrific customer service: I placed the order in a hurry just after we'd moved into this house, and didn't notice that the default address was our old home :(

We have one too, very good. Also John Lewis Hungarian goosedown.

We have a wool summer duvet - I hate it too heavy - not drappy, We got the John Lewis Hungarian down - would never take it off the bed to replace it with the wool one in the summer.
