Sofa and rug too big?

Home interior newbie and I’m feeling overwhelmed.

Got a sofa I’ve been coveting for a very good price on eBay, but now I cannot help but feel like it’s far too big for the room. Or have YouTube design videos have made me paranoid?

To top it off, my long awaited fancy rug arrived today and I think it’s made the problem worse.

It all looks really beige still as I need curtains, artwork and a coffee table. What have I done wrong?

Honest opinions very welcome!

(P.s. know the TV is also too high but it’s really the only place it fits.)

ugh!

A coir colour/type rug of a similar size or smaller if you wish would work.

Didn't realise you had only been in the house for 3 weeks! Take your time, see how you use the room before making any changes and expensive purchases.

Could you tell us where the sofa is from please or post a link? Thanks

It’s the Camerich Lazytime Plus (deep) with the large chaise in the colour ‘Tyler’ (I think). The smaller chaise section would have worked better for sure but hey, it’s a +£5k sofa we got for less than a grand from a wonderful eBayer!

Yes that’s spot on, something flatwoven perhaps and with a nice deep colour to it or even a pattern. More modern and practical for sure. Live and learn.

We have a lovely circular Jute rug in the dining area (which is also completely unfurnished apart from a ropey ten year old bookcase!). Moving from a small one bed flat to a Victorian house three times the size has been… a learning curve!

The rug in case anyone is curious is the large Flokati Rug from The White Company. Goes back tomorrow via courier for a full refund, thank god!

Both have been good buys in my opinion. Yes, it could have been better from an interior designer point of view, but it would not have been you.
Move the rug to the left (up to the door) and towards the fireplace and it will have a more even look. White and grey is a rather boring mix of colours but if you buy just a few cushions, with vibrant colours that can link rug and sofa, the feeling will be better.
I personally would go for something that has a hint of yellow or pink ( both lovely with grey).
It's a lovely space!

I think the sizes are fine but move it out as PP have said.

the biggest issue is the TV, it needs to go in an alcove. TVs over mantelpieces never work.

I think it looks great!

I think sofas always look odd on day one until your eyes get used to it x

Sizal is really good in my view, only problem with it, you cant clean it as it leaves water stains

I didnt realise you had been there 3 weeks, most people are still using cardboard boxes for furniture at that stage

I like! But agree about something on the wall behind the sofa. I could happily come and collapse on it now.

This. You also need some people longing on the sofa chatting away, or to spread on it with a cat or dog.
It'll look cosy and fun.

I agree on returning the rug, size is good (have front sofa legs on it) but the contrast is too extreme with the sofa and floor.
I would try a natural fibre rug, IKEA Lohals is a good one often used by designers and comes in various sizes.
Add some lighter cushions and a throw to soften the sofa a bit.
The other things will come with time. Though I would get the TV off the wall as a first step.
