I was very close today to ordering Karndean flooring for most of my house ground floor, But I have looked at Trustpilot and am now very nervous about it. There are lots of poor reviews of it wearing badly or showing scratches. I then looked at Amtico and found similar poor reviews. `I'm shocked and very confused. My parents had Amtico in their kitchen and it still looked good after 35years!!! WHat experience have others had of these please?

How many people bother to go on Trustpilot and say, 'yes, it's all fine, I'm happy?' Just like the relationships board on here is not full of people saying 'my marriage is good, I am happy with my DH, we don't argue and I don't want to LTB'...

I have had Karndean in my kitchen and bathrooms for eight or ten years and it is still absolutely fine.

We love our Karndean floor. We've had it through out the entire house for about 4 years and it looks exactly the same as when it was first laid.

JaninaDuszejko · 05/04/2024 20:46

We have Karndene in our hallway, I don't know when it was put in but in the 6 years we've been in the house it has aged. I do have 3DC, including a DS who likes to rollerskate in the hall so we are pretty hard on house decoration. That said we had cheap laminate in a previous house that seemed to survive everything we threw at it (sadly).

I will say LVT is just plastic with good PR, I'd never choose to put it in my house, I'd far rather have ceramic tiles or real wood parquet.

We have Amtico in our kitchen and utility room in a dark, slate-like colour. Two years now and it’s looking great.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/04/2024 21:00

I've had amtico signature in my dining room for 5 years and it looks as good today as it did the day it was put down. Sometimes I notice what appear to be scratches but as soon as I clean it ( with method floor cleaner ) the "scratches" disappear)

When I can afford it I'm having it put in my lounge too as I'm fed up with my carpet being damaged by my cats.

I love love love mine. Looks like it was laid yesterday, not 10 years ago.

LadyDaisy42 · 05/04/2024 21:04

Had Karndean on our downstairs floor for 7 years and no complaints. If I was looking super close there are some scratches where the dining chairs get shifted, but otherwise it's held up exceptionally well in a household with two boisterous children throwing/dropping/coming in with football boots etc. Would recommend and would definitely get again (although we've no intention of replacing this for the foreseeable, it will literally last as long as we want it too).

Same. Had it 22 years! Indestructible.

HesterPrincess · 05/04/2024 21:09

We've got the loose lay in our bathroom and it's been a disaster.

DD has just laid Invictus LVT and that seems very good quality and a lot less cost.

It's very hard wearing but looks a bit plasticky.

Nudgethatjudge · 06/04/2024 22:54

We have Karndean in the kitchen/dining area.
Lots of foot traffic including cay dog.

It's been 9yrs since it was laid. I can see a few scratches but that's because I clean it.

I think it is has been worth what we paid. I'd re-buy it all over again.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/04/2024 23:01

Our Kardean has been down for 17 years and looks great. I love it.
there was a thread on here quite recently about Karndean OP, might be worth a look

mynumber · 06/04/2024 23:07

Ours is Van Gogh wood effect and it's brilliant. Had it for years in hallway and living room. We have a dog and my DS kicks his football on it all the time. We are just about to have the same laid in another room to match!

VanGoghsDog · 06/04/2024 23:09

I just had my engineered wood replaced with Karndean (the floor was damaged by a leak) as it was £1k cheaper, and I have had enough outlay recently. I don't think it looks plasticy. It honestly looks really similar to the wood.

Can't comment on wear, it's only been down a few months.

We’ve got it in kitchen and bathrooms, all put down 10-15 years ago and looking good even though we’ve never treated it with special cleaner like you’re supposed to. Have Amtico Spacia in one room too and happy with that.

Fairygoblin · 06/04/2024 23:15

9 years since mine being laid, a few bubbles/lumpy bits in the kitchen area and a couple of edges have come up, annoying and I feel ill wanting to to redo in the next few years. Oh and there's a few scratches in dining room area. Was sold to me as really resilient, not so sure....

jackles · 07/04/2024 09:58

This is my Amtico kitchen floor which was laid 22 years ago, it's been fantastic.

We had Amtico in our hall and kitchen/dining room. It was put in by the builders so not one of the entry level priced Amtico. We have kids and big dogs. It’s absolutely fucking bullet proof. We’ve now replaced the living room carpet with the same stuff and have it all downstairs. I haven’t noticed scratches but it’s really easy to replace bits that do get damaged.

the only thing I would suggest is that you get a registered dealer to fit it.

Sweetchildrenofmine · 07/04/2024 10:45

We have karndean in the kitchen and it’s been awful. Worn through under dining chairs, lifted where it has got wet. Looks terrible now - admittedly it’s had quite the bashing, but we should have got real wood which we could sand now. I’ll definitely push for Lino in the kitchen next time. I have no idea how to repair it.

Sweetchildrenofmine · 07/04/2024 10:46

I should say we also have it in the hallway and it is good as new there.

KatPurrson · 07/04/2024 10:46

Downstairs in our house was all Karndean when we moved in. I think it’s about 20 years old.

It’s held up pretty well. There’s one dent in it where I dropped the TV but otherwise not a scratch. It still looks good.

That said I don’t really like how it feels underfoot. Very unforgiving.

alpinia · 07/04/2024 10:53

Our friends had it laid in the kitchen diner. It has been down 4 years and looks awful. Completely scratched up in the high traffic areas, obvious wear marks etc. They have complained to no avail.

In contrast, my parents put some down at least 25 years ago in a previous house and it still looks pretty great. So perhaps the quality has changed over the years?

We've used wood effect tiles in high traffic areas and are very happy with them. But, they are cold underfoot if you don't have underfloor heating.

LeeHarper5 · 07/04/2024 11:13

I’ve had it in my kitchen & utility (charcoal tile), hallway (wood effect planks) and bathroom (light grey tiles) for 13 years. The only area to show wear/scratches is the hallway but that’s only in a certain light. Everywhere else looks as good as new. We had a leak from our boiler about 4 years after it was laid. Luckily we had spare tiles and strips so our fitter simply removed the tiles that were damaged and lay new.
I personally don’t find it cold to walk on. To me it feels warmer and less slippery than my Mum’s laminate. I bought LVT as a cheaper option for another room but wouldn’t buy it again.
