I still like grey. And I find sage green dull.

Spill your bad taste here - what do you like that according to this board you really shouldn't?

I always hated grey, fashionable or not and was so frustrated going to buy bathroom Lino that it was all shades of grey.
A Christmas tree is not a Christmas tree if it is some trendy colour like ice blue with navy, or shades of pink. It has to be red and gold or completely multicoloured.

Mixedvegetables · 05/04/2024 19:07

I still might like a twiggy thing with fairy lights on

Nannyfannybanny · 05/04/2024 19:18

Lots of grey. I picked it before it became fashionable, same with beige and red, books and designers followed me! You have to have a neutral base shade somewhere. I have jazzed it up in the living room, dashes of mustard. Conservatory where I am now, mostly grey and white, cushions, pink lamp shades cushions, Sanderson Dandelion clock , and Villa Nova Tea at the Ritz.Bathroom is completely tiled white, cupboards, dusty green,Britans Bathrooms, they discontinued the colour just as we had it.

Shepadoodle · 05/04/2024 19:30

I love fairy lights too. I like twiggy shit but can't have it because cats are the worst.

InferiorDesign · 05/04/2024 19:30

I like laminate!

and I also love oak furniture and picture frames.

I love a scented candle

caringcarer · 05/04/2024 19:33

Next week we wallpaper on just one feature wall around the inglenook. And it's pale silver grey with creamy white flowers on. The other walls will be Timeless. I'm having black blinds and a large grey rug with dark grey and red diamond shapes on and dark red light shades. It's just been Timeless everywhere in our house for 7 years so this is a big move for me to add a pop of colour. I'm getting dark red and black cushions too. I'm a bit nervous with colour.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/04/2024 19:39

I cannot abide house plants . I love plants in the garden but not indoors .
My DD has 3 cacti but on the strict instruction they live in her room.

I think ( PoundShop Psychology Hat on here ) it's because my Mum was/still is a hoarder who liked to collect "things" but went obsessively overboard .
So in her Plant Phase every surface had a houseplant , there were dozens of glass containers growing cuttings . (All the same type )
She "rescued" a hideous rubberplant when a neighbour moved ( and couldn't take it with them)

When I look at RightMove I am all "Nooooo too many bastard plants"

MrKDilkington · 05/04/2024 19:43

I buy art based on what colour it is, so that it matches the room, and don't give a shit what it represents 🙋🏼‍♀️

Shepadoodle · 05/04/2024 19:50

@MrKDilkington I have no idea why but that really made me laugh.

Where you’re going wrong is calling it Sage. It is forever known in our house as sausage after our youngest mis-read the label in wilko. Now we refer to it as sausage it’s so much more exciting!

Green sausages? I'm never coming to tea at your house!

I have nets in the front bedroom. I don't call it the Master Bedroom because that's utter wank. I am also not paying out thousands for shutters when IKEA Venetian blinds do the trick and the bay is constructed in a way that makes curtains impossible.

I also like lights, lamps, fairy lights and novelty kitchen equipment, along with multiple small appliances that all stay out because they're used regularly.

i'm also exceedingly pissed off that Sage Green is coming into fashion because it's my favourite colour and I've had it for 13 years.

LoobyDop · 03/04/2024 18:03

Haven’t seen it mentioned for a while, but I don’t mind a bit of twiggy shit. Especially if it has fairy lights on it.

Until your second sentence I was thinking that Twiggy Shit must be a name of a paint colour like Sage Green 🤣 It seemed quite a bold choice!

AlwaysGinPlease · 05/04/2024 20:01

I didn't like Grey when everyone had it. Now I like it and not many people still have it. I hate bright decor. I like bright flowers, paintings but not wallpaper or brightly coloured painted walls. Grey is very calming.

idontlikealdi · 05/04/2024 20:07

I like my sage green, it's cheerier than my sisters grey everywhere. Do what you like!

I had a dark purple 'feature wall' with dark leather sofas, hated it.

BingoMarieHeeler · 05/04/2024 20:09

I like a feature wall personally! Depends on the colour/pattern of course but that’s the case with any wall surely.

I like twiggy shit.

And I really like curtains. Seems lots of people can cope with darkness outside and no curtains, and in the day sun blaring into your eyes, but I can’t.

I find sage grey quite dull and saddening 😬

FindingMeno · 05/04/2024 20:48

I prefer kitchen cupboards to open shelving.

HerculesMulligan · 05/04/2024 20:50

I first painted a bedroom sage green in 2006! No regrets.

peloton2024 · 05/04/2024 20:53

My house is grey, I find it calming
I also have fairy lights in the bedroom

PastorCarrBonarra · 05/04/2024 21:03

I like those 1970s clear interior bricks. I saw them called fox’s glacier mints on here once.

TheDogIsInCharge · 05/04/2024 21:05

I love my bifold doors😁I had no idea they were so detested until I came on here.

When they are open it’s absolutely lush as I have a very tropical garden and it feels like the garden is in the house.

They are also white. I didn’t get the memo that they are supposed to be black or grey aluminium. But the rest of my windows are white so why would I have the downstairs a different colour? 🤷‍♀️

I also have grey wool carpet on the stairs. I had oatmeal carpet once and that was the most fucking stupid idea ever with two kids and a filthy dog. Grey is very forgiving… what’s another possible forgiving colour? Brown? I don’t even wear brown let alone have a carpet in that colour.

I have eyelet curtains. Apparently a mumsnet sin. Fuck knows why.

One wall in my living room is very dark green. It even has gold flying ducks on it. Vey feature-tastic.

I love my home.

I prefer kitchen cupboards to open shelving.

That's not bad taste, it's just sensible. Open shelving in your kitchen if you are a cook just means your pretty things get covered in dusty grease. Real cooks use cupboards to keep their stuff clean in a busy working space.

TBH I agree with a PP that things just go out of fashion because of overuse and misuse. So when light grey paint was just used on scandi style minimalist homes with lots of period features, natural woods and luxurious textures it was desirable. Now grey is used by 'property developers' for walls, carpets, lino, curtains and sofas so you can't tell if the photo is in B&W or colour it's as derided as magnolia was when it was used by the same people for the same reasons.

So I'm not convinced any style is bad taste but things can be done cheaply and in a thoughtless way (cheap but considered can be cool).

Oh I loooooved those! As a kid i dreamed of having a flat with a wall of those which somehow lit up different colours 😄

ABirdsEyeView · 05/04/2024 21:55

I like 80s neon signs. And if I wasn't worried about resale in the future, I'd have a pink kitchen instead of a sensible colour.
I'm fond of kitsch. But at the same time I also like cream magnolia walls and laminate flooring and vases full of twigs with fairy lights attached.
I like mass produced pictures and don't feel the need to own original and expensive art.

JJathome · 05/04/2024 22:04

I like a feature wall and artificial flowers and plants, younger some great ones now.

i think we should fill our homes with what we like, not what is fashionable.

however i think grey is hard to get right, and i dont like the cold harder blue toned greys, but like rhe softer pale warmer ones, if its done right, although I dont have any in the house.

Fookintired · 05/04/2024 22:08

Here goes, kitchen is light grey, sofas are grey, flooring is light grey in two rooms, we have crushed velvet beds 😱 and two other rooms are grey. I've ventured out a bit and letting son have his room painted dark grey. I've got grey bedroom furniture. Seems I love grey and hadn't realised. Totally laughing at myself here. God what else? Every thing else is painted white. My colour is in my pictures and art on the wall, the bed linen and throws (orange, pinks and reds mainly). I don't do wallpaper and I really hate carpet, very out of touch these days so I'm not even sure if they are frowned upon. I have a strong streak of who cares anyhow.

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/04/2024 22:09

I LOVE a fake plant.
