Can anyone help me to visualise? We've just looked at a house and its one main living room is 24' long. Patio doors one end and window the other end. Horrible wall fire window end.
I'd take the fire out and have a proper fireplace possible with a gas fire log burner and mantle. How do you arrange furniture to accommodate large oak table and sideboard. Think I'd like one of these sofa units and separate chair.
Photos would be great or simply how you'd do the layout.

I can't see the size of the kitchen it's too blurry but if I had the money that would be my lounge. The long room would be my kitchen diner.

To answer a few questions.

We're retired and downsizing.
Not up for major renovations.
Yes room will be for eating too.
At present we have a large rectangular table that has 2 extension leaves used mainly for Xmas and Easter. Also a matching sideboard. All light oak.

I really like the idea of 2 easy chairs and corner sofa.

What's the best coloured neutral hardwood flooring to have?
I don't like grey if that helps!

Agree with the suggestion that you divide it into zones with screens or open shelving units. That will allow you to have a cosy living room area without losing the dual aspect and the light and space. Open shelving would also mean you can fill them with a mix of plants, books and a couple of nice ornaments, and make a nice interesting focal point.

Re flooring have a look at Karndean before committing to hardwood. Visit a supplier/retailer and ask for samples to take home.
