Which bathroom tiles?

I'm at the start of thinking about doing my bathroom, and struggling to choose tiles. I've ordered samples and they should be arriving next week.

For context: Our house is Victorian with an overall traditional look, but each room has a pop of yellow, and I want the bathroom to make a real statement.

I've narrowed down my options and I'd love to get your thoughts. Also open to suggestions if anyone finds any others...

Options are: A | B | C | D

(Is a yellow bathroom a bit out there?!)

I think the herringbone look is such a trend will be instantly dated in two years time (if not already). I prefer D for the nod to Victorian feel.

I like A &D not keen on the other two options really like the wallpaper in option A I wallpapered the top half of wall in my bathroom & really like it.

In order of preference, A,C,D,B

I don’t like B at all, looks like greasy parquet flooring. But I really like A.

B. C A in that order. Discount D. The herringbone on B is really fashionable right now, but I think it counts as classic. If you’re really concerned about keeping it timeless though, I think A is the best option.

I think B is a stylish statement.

I don't like any of them. The colour looks like the nicotine-stain colour used in pubs in days gone by.

A is ok. The rest are horrible.

D is very soviet era institution. So that’s a big no. The Marrakesh one is lovely!

The only one I sort of like is A but somehow this yellow colour seems completely wrong for a bathroom especially as your house is Victorian, the herringbone is the worst, the colour of a Swedish sauna, personally I would be going much more traditional and would opt for dark or a bottle green.

I'm sorry I was expecting yellow, sunny, light. These are definitely depressing shades. I'm guessing you won't be putting makeup on in there or getting romantic.

Maybe keep the pop of yellow in the bathroom to the towels or the flooring or the blinds. The yellow tiles will create a dingy light.

Wondering if anyone can help?

Currently 1-2 weeks pregnant with my third child. DS is 3 and DD is 6 months.

V shocked at finding out I was pregnant and just don’t know what to do?

Problem is the sleeping! Basically DH is a REALLY bad snorer so we mostly need separate bedrooms and in a 4 bedroom house I’m worried what would happen when all the kids get older and need space/privacy. Would we need to move? DS has his own room and DD is with me and I’m thinking maybe she could share if I decide to go ahead?

Any help/advice from people who have three children and/or small age gaps would be so appreciated. I’m really unsure as to what to do and on a final note, I lost my mum only 2 weeks ago so all a bit of an emotional mess…is this baby a sign from above or am I giving myself too much to take on?

Hi Mary6688, I am sorry you are in this predicament and sorry, also, for the loss of your mum. An unexpected pregnancy must be a lot to process while dealing with a bereavement.

Thanks all - really helpful. Just to clarify, the pictures don’t necessarily reflect how the tiles would be laid on the wall.

A rich, warm yellow is a gorgeous colour for a bathroom, go for it. I'd maybe do half height tiles and wallpaper the top half of the walls like in picture A, with a crisp white bathroom suite. What colour hardware would you go for? Chrome?

In the midst of doing our Victorian bathroom now. I ordered tile samples online too - they 'got lost in the post' and were resent...more than once!! That almost delayed our whole project. My advice - go to a local tile merchant with your photo ideas, have a look, have a feel, have a chat with the tile shop people. If you are using a local fitter/tiler likelihood is they will know the tile merchant shop and can get you a discount, too.

Oh I’m so sorry, how embarrassing!

Personally for a bathroom I would use large porcelain tiles, as the grout will be thinner and a lot less of it.

I might consider "D", if the rest of the style fitted.

And a non-white grout!
