How best to complete this re-decorated room?

We have recently redecorated our bedroom in sage green/cream.Really love it but it feels quite cold and the left hand side and back walls (especially the left hand cream one) look very blank and sparse.Do I paint this in the sage green aswell? Or perhaps a dark green? (Abit scared of doing that as we had dark purple on the back wall before and it took DH bloody ages to cover, so not sure he would be keen!) Or the other option is to find something decorative to put on the walls? (Obviously it's a big space to fill so not sure what) Wallpaper not an option as we rent, unless it's peel & stick I suppose.
Ideas appreciated of how to make it a warmer less blank space. Thanks!

PS: Please ignore the manky carpet, which is soon to be replaced! 😅

Pictures, throw, shelf….

parietal · 26/05/2023 09:14

bedside rugs - small ones in nice colours

definitely pictures. the cheapest option is to find a large calendar of arty pictures that you like (Art Deco pictures might go well with that colour scheme) and frame up the 3 or 4 best pages in matching frames. then hang in a neat row along the wall above the bed and you immediately have art on the walls.

One larger or 3 smaller pictures behind the bed, and some small, thin shelves on the cream wall maybe? Similar to the pictures here, but I’d probably go for pale frames with the pictures, with some pink in them as an accent colour.

I’d paint the whole room the sage green.

Bigger and more eye catching bedside lamps and cushions and a canvas above the bed

ApolloandDaphne · 26/05/2023 10:08

An accent colour (pink would be lovely), loads of pictures, throws, cushions etc.

dudsville · 26/05/2023 10:12

I think it needs something to add depth, like a wood coloured/wood item. Could be lamps and light shade.

Mummyof287 · 26/05/2023 10:17

Thanks for the replies! Yes I'm not sure about the lamps, think they are abit plain and small.
The walls are the main thing I think need some attention, both the white one and sage one look plain, and I've tried moving the bed so it's back is against the white wall but still they both look empty.
I was thinking a nice family canvas above the bed might be a good option.
Or multiple frames with artwork might work as one poster suggested.

A more substantial headboard or bed frame would make a big difference. Second the rugs and pictures.

Maybe a big mirror one of those ones that looks like a retro window frame ( not a good description)

Daisiesandprimroses · 26/05/2023 10:32

What’s a family canvas? You don’t mean a big pic of your family, those are never good if you do.

Newname47 · 26/05/2023 10:32

It's just a bit bland. Generally the answer seems to be having 2 or 3 base colours and an accent in smaller doses, especially if they flow through the house. I find natural wood works well but black or even a dark terracotta can tie in nicely too as accents as HR teatime has shown in her picture.

Mummyof287 · 27/05/2023 14:35

I'm liking the pink idea and have found some nice pale pink pictures/photos of our girls and ornaments which will incorporate that as an accent colour. Also thinking of getting some pale pink lamps and maybe a blind.Maybe cushions or a throw to bring some pink to the bed.

I am still unsure about the blank cream wall though.....especially as we have decided to turn the bed the other way round now so there is no contrast with the headboard (not financially viable to replace the bed)

There are three options with that I guess, leave it cream and decorate it with various pictures, paint it pale blush sort of pink (DH isn't sure that would go having two colours like that next to one another?) paint it sage too like the other one or find some plainish blush pink or sage peel and stick wallpaper....thoughts please?

Brightly coloured pictures, rug, duvet and/or curtains. Some plants. Anything to break up the monotone.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 27/05/2023 14:52

If you are turning the bed I would definitely go for large lamps, big cushions and smaller ones plus a throw, artwork and even a rug.

peoplearepeople · 27/05/2023 15:32

I really think making the actual bed look more inviting would help. Extra plain pillows behind the ones already there and a cushion or two arranged along with a nice throw would look lovely. Make sure it's all nicely made each day and it will make a huge improvement.
Don't do the the family canvas idea. Especially not in the bedroom! A lovely colourful picture that you love could be great though along with a cosy rug.
Make sure you come back and show us what you do! The colour you've chosen is beautiful. 😀

Needs a mirror

LibertyLily · 27/05/2023 15:58

No to family canvas. Yes to colourful art, rug, extra pillows and cushions plus throw on the bed. Also, larger lamps and mirror(s).

Our main bedroom is still a work in progress but we have a lovely colourful wool rug from Liberty under the bed (that I treated myself to with a small inheritance), pretty throw and cushions, the latter I made myself. We were given a pair of huge table lamps with hideous shades and I wasn't sure where the lamps could go as we already had lots about the house. I replaced the shades with ones from Pooky and have them as bedside lamps with large mirrors behind to reflect light around our fairly dark room. On the walls we have a mix of botanical (Homesense/TK) and vintage prints collected over the years.

Reallybadidea · 27/05/2023 17:03

There's too much cream I think. I would paint the whole room the same colour green (I've just done the spare room like this and it looks lovely) and replace the bedside tables with oak ones which will look warmer. I'd also change the light fitting to a pendant with a bamboo/rattan shade. You could consider replacing the bedside lamps with plug in wall lights or even wired ones (that you don't wire in) with rechargeable light bulbs if you don't want to see a cord. That will take up some room on the wall and provide interest.

Then floor length cream curtains and botanical prints. Nice cushions and a throw as others have said.

DappledThings · 29/05/2023 11:05

I'd paint it all green. The cream colour is boring. The green is lovely.

I'd worry it would feel a bit like being in a dirty fish tank if all the walls were green. It might work in a light and sunny room though.

I love my all green bedroom. But then I find any wall in cream/white/magnolia/ anything in that range dull and slightly unnerving!

ontheplayground · 29/05/2023 17:39

Like so many other posters have said, this is a room crying out for pictures on the walls. I would go for a set of big artworks (not a family canvas), personally.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2023 18:41

Paint the whole room in sage. It will feel more cosy.

Ihavekids · 29/05/2023 18:45

Lovely green. Paint the whole room.

Then you need to warm it up, recommend a wooden/ rattan headboard.

Build pictures up as you go, no rush.

2 large statement lamps, Pooky or OKA, Graham and Green, I personally like mismatched but I know it's not for everyone.

But mainly, all green, and wooden, textured headboard. That white metal has to go.
