not quite money no object, but nearly.I want a really really cosy lovely soft blanket, to go over laps while watching telly, or my shoulders when I’m working. Something really really lovely, that feels like a hug. Natural materials, no particular colour scheme (just beautiful!)
where to look? I’ve admired things from Mourne Textiles before but nothing from there appeals right now…

I think you would need to look a ‘teddy’ blanket to have that soft cosy feel (not sure where would you get a really nice soft one though - will google

Frankly, 'HomeBargains' finest would meet that brief apart from 'natural'. If that's important to you, I'm sure you'll find something angora or whatever for £280.

Personally, I require soft and warm, primarily. £20 HB will do that.

How about a merino wool blanket? Wayfair have some nice ones.

jay55 · 07/03/2023 23:27

My favourite blanket came from TK maxx.

Violetparis · 07/03/2023 23:29

The Teddy range in Dunelm is lovely, soft and cosy.

I have a lovely one from John Lewis www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-plain-wool-throw/duck-egg/p4851183 bought it at the start of lockdown #1 on my bed right now, sometimes comes to my home office/the sofa/ my garden bench. Absolutely love it although I think it's gone up in price a bit since 2020

Can you crochet? I have crocheted blankets in Bernat Blanket yarn, it's super chunky & feels almost like baby soft towelling, grows quickly as well. I can crochet a whole 7' square blanket in under a month just doing a couple of hours a day. There are some gorgeous colours including some with sparkle

For warmth, weight, cost factor, washing and speed I would get a Sherpa fleece blanket. Amazon has lots.
For indulgence, warmth, indulgence and sheer satisfaction I would knit or crochet an alpaca /merino wool blanket! Because at that price point I want something perfect for me!

Iloveenidblyton · 08/03/2023 00:48

The warmest blanket I have is one I bought at a Xmas market pre COVID.
It’s 100% Tibetan Yak wool and so cosy, soft, no itchy and easy to wash in the machine wool cycle.
It’s more of a large shawl so ideal for over knees/ watching tv or wearing on walks.
They’re available online but more expensive now. Definitely worth it though and have had quite a few positive comments about it.

We have lots of lovely blankets but the very best is dd1's from Dunelm. Prob not natural fibres but super soft, super warm & super cozy. My mum has the same one. Dd1 loved it so much my mum bought her a matching one.

Amago cuddly blankets are lovely and available in different colours and sizes from Amazon.

UnaOfStormhold · 08/03/2023 02:05

Firespiral do some lovely blankets - they are double bed sized, really thick and soft and made from recycled cotton by a uk company. Not cheap at all.but very luxurious.

LadyGAgain · 08/03/2023 02:17

Get the super furry 'reindeer' or 'husky' electric blanket from Argos ! You don't have to have it plugged in. But...enjoy as well if you do!!!!

LibertyLily · 08/03/2023 12:40

Those Firespiral ones look fabulous!

My current favourite blankets are a (polyester) Helena Springfield one from Homesense which is currently adding an extra layer of cosiness on my side of the bed and a faux fur one I bought in a local interiors shop four years ago. The latter isn't natural fibres - and still cost £80 - but is incredibly toasty when I sit in our chilly living room without the wood burner lit.

Otoh, we bought a new 100% Welsh wool blanket locally and that's as itchy as anything. DH isn't fussed so he uses that sometimes, but imho whilst it looks nice and ticks the natural fibres box, it wasn't good value for money.

Tk maxx

I have an atlantic blanket and it is the softest thing I've ever owned, even after washing. It's so lovely

Cosmosgrowinmygarden · 08/03/2023 12:57

I bought a beautiful Merino wool blanket from a National Trust shop last October. Soft, not itchy at all, and excellent quality. It matches my sitting room colours perfectly.

Hermes

ticklemepinker · 08/03/2023 15:07

Hermes: that is bonkers. How can a blanket cost that much?

I love the Atlantic ones!
