Smeg kettle and toaster.... style over substance

Hello,

I have always wanted a smeg toaster and kettle in red. I was about to buy but I read some reviews and it appears they a bit style over substance. Any more reliable recommendations?

Just looked on Which reviews and Smeg variable temperature kettle has a very low score of 38% and is in the don't buy category, the Smeg normal kettle has a score of 58%, Best Buy kettles are around 80% score.

We got a Smeg dishwasher. Never again will we buy smeg anything. Even the name should warn you off. Smeg.

Yay to pp who said duality toaster good but other appliances not. I had both hand mixer and kettle break within months, whereas the toaster is still going strong after years of use.
Love my SNES fridge, wouldn't trust the smaller appliances.

ODFOx · 29/07/2021 08:42

Smeg not SNES obv!

HelenHywater · 29/07/2021 12:33

I love my dualit toaster and kettle too. Both are going strong at the moment.

My smeg fridge on the other hand is just crap. Looks lovely, but is crap.

My new copy of Which? magazine arrived half an hour ago. They did a test on small kitchen appliances/reliability etc, and SMEG came out bottom or near bottom for kettles, toasters etc. Dualit did well.

I replaced my Delonghi toaster toaster and kettle last year after 20 years! I again bought Delonghi- also looks great.

LadyEloise · 01/08/2021 09:28

@saraclara
Any mention of cordless vacuums in Which ?
I used to get it but so much info was irrelevant as I'm in Ireland.
Sorry for hijack.

Yep, no smeg appliances! Moved into a house with integrated smeg stuff. Fridge freezer blew, washing machine broke and oven door exploded on Christmas day. The guy replacing the fridge said smeg are horrendous and sacrifice function for style.

StarlingsDarlings · 01/08/2021 11:30

I also couldn’t stand to have one with the word ‘Smeg’ blazoned over it.

Really poor if they don’t last long either. My kettle and toaster were about £10 a piece five years ago and I keep willing for them to die so I can replace them with something nicer to look at.

bobdidit · 01/08/2021 11:30

I have a smeg kettle and toaster. Had them about 7 years. Kettle going strong, toaster broke about a year ago (only toasts one side of the bread). However I don't have the heart to throw it away or buy a new one (my fridge and other appliances are all smeg) so it still sits on my side as a rather expensive ornament 😬

Lampzade · 02/09/2021 23:16

I bought my cream smeg kettle and toaster for show. I don’t intend to use them

skyisblue21 · 11/09/2021 08:19

I have smeg kettle and toaster. The kettle is the temperature setting one. I really like it. It's very heavy tho without water and then even heavier wit water filled up! Mines the newer ones, where the smeg letters are screwed in and not just glued on so it hasn't and shouldn't come off.

skyisblue21 · 11/09/2021 08:20

Smeg customer service is brilliant. I was having issue with the kettle lid not opening straight away. They sent me a replacement when I called them

People get lured in by excellent customer service. Doesn't mean that their products are any good. I have an 18 month old Shark vacuum. It's so rubbish, it makes me mad. Customer service is excellent but the product is utterly crap.

Bought a SMEG KLF03 kettle in 2019. After about 15 months it started producing a burning smell from underneath. SMEG sent a replacement under guarantee. The replacement has lasted 9 months and has now started to exhibit the same burning issue.
Now out of the original 2 year warranty SMEG will not replace it. They did offer to sell me another at around 45 quid. With an expected life of 9 months I don't think so, but thank you SMEG for the kind offer.
Will certainly not be considering Smeg appliances ever again. For what is one of the most expensive kettles on the market I would have expected better.
