Smeg kettle and toaster.... style over substance

Hello,

I have always wanted a smeg toaster and kettle in red. I was about to buy but I read some reviews and it appears they a bit style over substance. Any more reliable recommendations?

** and definitely style of substance

Snookie00 · 19/07/2021 23:09

Can I just add that their fridges are shit too. Look beautiful but are crap and noisy. Definitely style over substance.

runoutofgoodusernames · 19/07/2021 23:15

Totally agree with @Powertothepetal

Nearly bought a Smeg range cooker but couldn't cope with SMEG being the first thing everyone would see as they walked through the door. Smeg! #dickcheese 🤣🤣🤣

VenusClapTrap · 22/07/2021 21:52

Well, bugger. I had my eye on a Smeg kettle and toaster for when the new kitchen is finished. I’ve already ordered the fridge so it’s too late for that.

Katshouldnotswim · 22/07/2021 21:58

Keep your receipt somewhere handyman I’m sure you will need it. I’m on my 2nd.

Kettle looks lovely tho and is very quiet.

TheSkatesOfCoachBombay · 22/07/2021 22:04

Friends have them, and say similar to PP's. Basically they break or burn the toast.

I'm a weirdo because I don't have a electric kettle or toaster. Can't stand things on my kitchen counters. I have a job top whistling kettle and I use the grill in the oven to make toast 😂

VenusClapTrap · 24/07/2021 15:17

I’ve been looking around for something with similar character, and I’m liking the Swan Nordic range. Also the Stelton Emma kettle, but it’s pricey.

GCAcademic · 24/07/2021 15:20

I've just got back from a holiday cottage which had a Smeg cooker. The worst cooker I have ever used, a total heap of shit. I'll be avoiding their products like the plague.

MirandaMarple · 24/07/2021 17:55

They look ghastly, not stylish in the slightest. Even if they had substance I wouldn't buy them.

User56439876 · 25/07/2021 18:21

We have very hard water so I wouldn't pay that much for a kettle because however good it looks when I buy it it will look shit in less than a year even with regular descaling, I usually buy a reasonable brand in the sale for £20-30 and hope to get 2 years use out of it. I have the Smeg coffee machine though

Davros · 26/07/2021 00:12

I have found that Sage Appliances are good

DismantledKing · 26/07/2021 00:14

We had a smeg kettle. It was crap, very unreliable.

Beebumble2 · 26/07/2021 08:28

I can recommend Russel Hobbs, I have the glass kettle that glows blue when boiling. About 10 years old and replaced a previous RH kettle of undetermined age. My RH toaster, classic design, was bought when DS was in high school. He’s grown with a house ( toaster) and children of his own.

TheFutureIs · 26/07/2021 08:43

Another vote for Sage kettles, really happy with mine. Loved our Kenwood one and would have replaced with the same one if they still made it

coogee · 26/07/2021 09:01

We have had to replace our old kettle. My husband insisted that the replacement had to look like a kettle and bought a Russel Hobbs K65.

I really like it. It’s light, boils fast, pours perfectly and matches the Dualit toaster.

RogueV · 26/07/2021 09:04

I have Dualit Architect kettle and toaster - 3.5 years and still going strong, I believe Dualit are meant to last for ages!

(Toaster has a great toastie attachment too)

Topbird29 · 26/07/2021 09:09

We have the delonghi 4 slice toaster in blue - had for about 8 years and still going strong.and beautiful to look at. We had a normal kettle, but now have had a delonghi one for about 6 months. All still good, but not long enough to stress test it yet, and through the baby stage so not using as intensely.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 26/07/2021 09:17

You are paying for the word SMEG to be stuck on the side! 😊

TheSunShinesBrighter · 26/07/2021 09:19

I also can’t get away from the meaning of the word c 1988 😅 Makes me feel a bit sick! 🤣

barbrahunter · 26/07/2021 09:20

I also had both. I can affirm that the toaster toasted more on one side than the other. Then it broke.

chnahingnameagain · 29/07/2021 00:56

I got white smeg kettle and toaster for my kitchen. I love it. Very pretty to look at. The kettle is very heavy tho when empty and gets heavier when filled! The base of the kettle feels cheap, I have the temperature control one. Admittedly I've never used the toaster, don't really eat toast , just got it to match and make the kitchen look nice

GellerYeller · 29/07/2021 01:17

Friend has the Smeg kettle/toaster combo. Echoing the comments here, heavy, can't see the water gauge and feels full when it isn't. Toaster is meh. She's replacing with kitchenaid appliances. We're on our second Dualit toaster. Our Dualit kettle was utter pap however.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 29/07/2021 07:45

😅 How the other half live...!

saraclara · 29/07/2021 07:50

Love my dualit studio kettle. Classy design, fast, pours like a dream. I'm waiting for my other brand toaster to die so I can replace it with the matching one..

StormingNotNorming · 29/07/2021 07:59

I love my Dualit toaster which goes and goes. The bloody kettle, on the other hand, was replaced three times (all Dualit Classics) and never lasted much beyond about two years. Always just after the warranty ran out.

I've given up and bought a £20 one that won't make me cry when it needs to be replaced.
