Chair Ladder, what to do with it?

Longdistance · 20/03/2021 22:30

My dh ‘volunteered’ to remove a chair ladder for his ‘auntie’ (relative) and take it away as it’s in her way and she has no use for it.
It’s actually a sturdy chair and ladder. We think it’s mahogany. Not sure what to do with it. Any ideas welcome.

Have a look on eBay and check sold prices for that sort of chair and then maybe try and sell it on Facebook Marketplace 🤷‍♀️

I have to say though, that is a gorgeous chair and if I had the space I’d have it in a flash.

NeedSomeInfoAgain · 21/03/2021 01:36

Ebay or local auctioneer when they open up again.

ElGuardiandenoche · 21/03/2021 01:37

Oh! And I think they may be called Library Chair Ladders or convertible chairs 🤷‍♀️

Time40 · 21/03/2021 02:44

Ooooh, that's nice! I wish I had an "auntie" who threw things like that my way. (I had a look on Ebay ... two that look quite like that sold for £110 and £125.)

NoSquirrels · 21/03/2021 11:22

I think you should keep it and love it - it’s gorgeous!

If you’re asking about whether you should change it in some way, please don’t.

What @NoSquirrels said ^^

I don’t want to change it. That would be the wrong decision. It’s really solid. I can imagine it in an old house with tall book shelves. My house is ‘new build’ and we have book shelves, but I’m tall, ha!
Don’t want it living in the garage, don’t want it gathering dust. We are supporting be moving at some point so may suit the next house. This is it unfurled.

Beautiful!

choppolata · 22/03/2021 06:34

I've been looking for one of those, they are fabulous. Use it as a plant stand?

JustWonderingIfYou · 22/03/2021 06:36

Oooooh, it's lovely. I've been looking for one of those. 5ft and planning to put it in the kitchen so I can reach the higher shelves.

Definitely keep it. Do you have children? Might be useful for when they need to reach things.

That is lovely, could be used as a feature, display items on. Would love it. Keep it for next house just in case

I second a plant stand !

1990s · 22/03/2021 06:45

Never seen one of those before - I love it! Plant stand is a god plan. What a nice thing to have.

aramox · 22/03/2021 07:32

What do you want to know? I wouldn't put plants on it, mahogany marks really easily from water.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/03/2021 09:16

I'm not actually sure that it featured highly in gods plan & if it does, I'd like to request he shifts his focus to slightly more important issues, like pandemics! 🤣

Keep it until you move! Do you have anywhere you could use it as a book shelf until then?

1990s · 22/03/2021 11:03

Hahahah agreed Witches - God, stop making nice furniture and sort out the big things first pls.

Longdistance · 22/03/2021 22:01

I kill plants Blush
It is amazingly sturdy. I don’t know how long Auntie J had it, but she’s in her 80’s now. It was in her way in her house.
Maybe I will keep it for my next house. I just can’t picture it in this house as it seems like it belongs in a period house. We’re very boring as our floors and furniture are solid oak. Mahogany might ‘clash’. What do I know 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh, it’s absolutely beautiful. Would auntie know it’s history? It’s a beautiful bit of furniture and I’m so glad you’re not going to paint it.

Try it in your home though. You may be surprised at how well it looks. I’d love it!

Anyoldtime · 22/03/2021 22:13

I love it.

Put a plant on it. Old furniture always looks sturdier and better than new or painted furniture.

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2021 22:14

That's a beautiful piece. I'm very jealous.

parietal · 22/03/2021 22:17

knock down a ceiling or two in your house so you can build a massive library and then use your beautiful chairladder to reach the top shelves. you don't need the rest of the house anyway, do you Wink

spongedog · 22/03/2021 22:19

Lovely. Not sure of the age.

But please be beyond careful if you are even vaguely going to think about putting a plant on it. So many nice older pieces are marked from water.

Longdistance · 22/03/2021 22:26

Definitely not for plants.
Actually, our extension is really tall. Hmm, how to get bookshelves in there 🤔

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/03/2021 22:28

I have one.

StCharlotte · 23/03/2021 23:00

Do you have a corner of a landing or hall it could sit away from the other furniture (which would only get jealous)?
