Where do you get your sofas from??

We have leather recliner sofas from DFS which are a few years old but have fallen apart (cost £1800), looking to replace them with a fabric sofa, not recliners necessarily but deep comfy seats, corner sofa with 7 seats.

DH not keen on dfs or similar as think it's all style no substance, where do we go for good quality, nice looking sofas?! Seen a Loaf one in John Lewis but it's pricey - will pay more for one that will last though!

Is Sofology any good?

Help!

The lounge co

3 years ago and still looking as good as new despite 2 children jumping and spilling on them every day

Excellent service and quality and made in U.K. by proper furniture makers (they are part of the Parker knoll/duresta group)

I tried Sofa.com and gave the £3.3k sofa away, was rubbish. Friend tried Loaf, the same. I decided to buy from Made. £1500 got me a large, very comfy, 7 seat asymmetrical U shape (2 sort of chaise ends). Ok, the back cushions could have been better filled so they need a bit of plumping after use, but apart from that it is just FAB. Will post a pic if asked.

My sofa from Next is 8 years old and still looks fine.

Kottbullar · 30/01/2021 11:04

Ours are from sofa workshop, Ikea, G-plan, John Lewis and Argos.

Argos are as you'd imagine cheap and cheerful. They're great for what we need them for but would want them to have heavy use.

All the others I'd thoroughly recommend.

I got my from Beales three years ago. Handmade British furniture made in Lancashire. They have now gone bust as too many people buy cheap imports from Poland that are made out of cardboard.

Made.com
Only had ours coming up 2 two years mind, but still look brand new. Most of their stuff is a very particular style so nothing too traditional, but I love it.

Just beware that at the moment lead times are ridiculous!

*to two years!

I've had a look and love the range and the Aqua clean fabric - think we will go for a 4 seater and 2.5 seater rather than a corner so need around £3k...better get saving! Thanks for the recommendation!

@littlemissblue
They normally have a 20% discount in January but again in summer if you miss this one

Apart from a chesterfield style leather from DFS all my other sofas/chairs are second hand or inherited so to speak.

I have g-plan, two Laura Ashley sofas, an Ikea one (which I bought for the dog bed, it's actually very well made and washes well), some ercol chairs and I have a sofa bed which was my MIL's.

I just couldn't afford to fill my house with good sofas if I bought brand new.

livingthegoodlife · 30/01/2021 22:20

Parker knoll - still going strong after 15 years. No sagging or worn fabric. Multiple children and dogs. But not very stylish.

John Lewis about 8 years old. Looking a bit saggy and tired. Nothing major though.

Laura Ashley - 8 years old. Still look new.

Cornishcrops · 30/01/2021 22:35

We used sofology twice. Dark fabric 3 seater and 2 seater in lounge. 4 years old and still looks like new.
Also have another Bright fabric 2 seater in the chill out room 3 years old and is in perfect condition.

We don't eat on the sofas. Everyone eats in the kitchen and dining room. I rotate and beat the cushions to keep them plump and vacuum the sofas each week.

We wasnt hassled walking round when we were in the store. Delivery was quick. They set them up in the rooms and took the rubbish away too. Had a phone call a week later to see if we were happy with them.

We bought three new sofas from Arlo & Jacob when we moved in 2019. Two of them (a Chesterfield in velvet and a 4 seater in herringbone wool) we really like and are holding up very well. The other (a corner sofa for the kitchen in a supposedly hard wearing ‘house’ fabric) has held up less well and is looking a bit saggy in the cushion department. But, on the whole 2 out of 3 isn’t a bad strike rate.

Two nice leather settees from dfs about twenty years ago still look nee... the cushions have gone flat though. A few years in they honoured their guarantee and replaced the leather on a couple of parts that had gone off a bit. Very impressed!

Shenadoah · 03/02/2021 12:55

Sofasofa.com (NOT sofa.com) great quality and unbelievable prices. Unless you live in Wales it is impossible to try them out in a showroom - but we decided to take a chance and it totally paid off - couldn't be happier!

CountessFrog · 03/02/2021 13:00

I bought a sofa from them once, it was great. I went to a Birmingham showroom to look at them?

stillonthattightrope · 03/02/2021 13:02

Our furniture village leather sofas lasted us 12 years and we are just about to replace them. If they still did the same ones we'd just rebuy but sadly they don't.
Our next ones are coming from DFS which I hope we don't live to regret.

www.arighibianchi.co.uk/

Arighi Bianchi - both of ours are British made.

Aiaiaicorona · 05/02/2021 15:14

Sofa.com 2.5 years old and still very happy with it

Spillanelle · 05/02/2021 15:16

I got one from next a few years ago and it’s not fared well at all. The cushions I don’t think are properly stuffed and so always look really out of shape.

notdaddycool · 06/02/2021 07:44

We have a sofasofa.com Chesterfield that I wouldn’t recommend. Our IKEA ones are way better. Will replace them all when the kids are a bit bigger.

bouncydog · 06/02/2021 10:04

We bought ours from sofa workshop over 20 years ago and had them re-covered about 5 years ago. Also had extra back cushions added in. We were going to dump them and replace but when we found out how much to buy the same quality would cost re-covering was less than a quarter of the price!!!
