We’re in the process of having a small extension and new kitchen. Kitchen still won’t be too large but will have a big pantry/utility. Is there anything in your kitchen you can live without? We really want a wine fridge so plan on having one of those and a spice drawer. Anything amazing that we’re missing out on?

If I was having my kitchen done I would love a range and a proving drawer as I do a lot of cooking and baking. Also a boiling water tap would be great. I would probably have two sinks if I could afford it too.

ihoeihoeihoe · 15/08/2020 21:22

We’ve already got a range which we will be keeping, so happy with that. Didn’t think of a boiling water tap will add to my list of things to check out! We were thinking of a sink with a rinsing section as we just don’t have the room for an actual double sink! Thank you

I wouldn't have a boiling water tap. They always break. It must be so bad for the environment to keep water permanently boiling. It just must be.

Literallynoidea · 15/08/2020 21:40

Yes to a one and a half sink. Better than a double sink IMO. And don't get a Belfast sink as of you drop a glass in it will break. Stainless steel.

Also get some USB holes in the power sockets. Makes all the difference.

Mosaic123 · 15/08/2020 21:42

I love my waste disposal, but they are not very green.

ihoeihoeihoe · 15/08/2020 21:49

@Literallynoidea

Good thinking, we did like the look of the Belfast sinks but we are trying to be sensible as were both clumsy and messy cooks, so tiles/splashback is essential even though the look of the smaller edging is appealing we need to make sure it works for us.

I haven’t heard that they always break but we will have to look into everything properly we are only in the designing stages atm so don’t know anything about them really. Also need to figure out whether it’s something we’d even make use of. Don’t want to waste money just to have fancy things, we really want to make it work for us

The glass will break not the sink. I have a Belfast sink I love it. I think you can get a one and a half one. My is a good quality through the small, local company we used not a B&Q one.

I‘ve got a baking cupboard. Only useful if you like baking. It has fold back doors to the work top so my Kenwood sits inside and a double socket inside. Fold back doors and slide the Kenwood forward to use. Much easier than lugging it out from a cupboard. I keep all my sugars, flours, decorating etc.
A pantry would be great we had to knock ours down to make room for a family table and more cupboards than the one sink unit.

Do you mind if I ask who your baking cupboard came from please? It sounds just the sort of thing I want. Struggling to find one for less than a grand and trying to find a way of ‘making’ one!

@Bowerbird5 your baking cupboard sounds like the stuff dreams are made of 😍 Is there any chance you would be able to show us a pic? Or screenshot something similar as I'm not good at visualising things.

I'm exceedingly jealous!

FanSpamTastic · 19/08/2020 23:42

We got an induction hob - love it and will never go back!

ihoeihoeihoe · 20/08/2020 20:48

Oh this has came back to life. Yes I’d also love to see your baking cupboard or a similar one @Bowerbird5 Grin

We were thinking of keeping all the large appliances in the pantry - mixer etc as we both enjoy baking/ bread making. That being said we would have room I assume for a baking cupboard so would love to see it!

Hi, I also have a double drawer under which hold all the baking related equipment in two extendable cutlery drawers. So spoon measures, icing equipment and scales sit on top.

Here goes

We also bought a Everhot which has a hot plate one side and an induction hob the other. It is very quick.

I think I just want your entire kitchen. That’s the baking cupboard that dreams are made of!
Bowerbird5 · 21/08/2020 21:52

Thanks. I waited about fifteen to twenty years to have my dream kitchen. It works really well and I don’t think I would change anything. The work tops are Verde Lana which is really unusual. We had to buy two pieces so they were able to cut two length for either side of the stove so it looks like a continuous length and the sink piece was cut from the top of one piece, the sink hole cut to slot in for a Belfast sink and they used an off cut for it to sit on with a little cupboard underneath.
I have two glass doors wall cupboards so I can display some of the crockery. The rest is in the dresser which is quite big. Two glass doors, shelves and four door cupboard underneath.

I just miss the kids all around the table. Bit of a squeeze past nowadays they’re all bigger than me now 🤣

ihoeihoeihoe · 23/08/2020 18:26

@Bowerbird5 sounds amazing. I’m still so unsure I think I just need to see lots of kitchens before any big decisions are made. I’m so scared I’m going to put it in and regret some things!

Definitely a boiling water tap. We have a Quooker which is well insulated so doesn’t use much energy.

ChilliBeanSauce · 25/08/2020 07:12

We have had a Quooker for over three years now and its never broken?
One of my best kitchen purchases. I also like having my bins hidden so we planned in extra space for that. A full size integrated freezer and and a full size fridge as I always have lots of veggies. On my wishlist for next kitchen is underfloor heating.

ChilliBeanSauce · 25/08/2020 07:14

The Quooker also comes now with a fizzy water option, if I bought one today Id choose that. Forgot to add, we also had a water softener installed three years ago, makes a huge difference to the quality of water in the whole house, no more limescale in the bathrooms so cleaning is really quick these days.

nubeejinnings · 25/08/2020 07:23

Somewhere to hang tea towels. It amazes me that kitchens are designed without this! Even with a dishwasher you need a towel!

redtulip12 · 25/08/2020 07:50

Definitely a hot water tap and wine fridge. I like pan drawers and agree with you re spice racks. I have 2 and love them

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/08/2020 08:03

Another thumbs up for a boiling water tap.

BasiliskStare · 25/08/2020 12:25

I have a boiling water tap for years and one in our previous house - never broken ( such wood) - I would not be without one now
