Duvet recommendations for luxury!

I am trying to create a "luxury" bedroom. We've just spent a stupid amount on a new mattress, what kind duvet feels the most luxurious?!

If you've landed here looking for suggestions, we've recently updated our best duvets page with the products MNers love - including options for all budgets. We hope it's useful!

I've had down duvets for many years, and wouldn't want any other sort now.

Wool - we've a Baavet one

NannyR · 16/08/2020 14:06

I was going to recommend a Baavet too. I love mine - it doesn't have that puffy, lightness of a down duvet but they feel light and they are great at adjusting to different temperatures. I've had mine about eight years now and it still looks and feels as good as it did when it was new.

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/08/2020 16:49

Wool! Or possibly silk?

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 17/08/2020 16:52

Wool. Especially if you are getting anywhere close to menopause.

VenusClapTrap · 18/08/2020 22:17

Another vote for wool.

bouncydog · 19/08/2020 21:14

We have woolroom duvets and they are great. Different weights for different seasons and also wool pillows.

Solasum · 19/08/2020 21:16

Not silk. I have one (influences by Mumsnet) and it is fine but doesn’t feel Lovely. Down all the way, in a big cloud.

YorkshireTeaIsTheBest · 19/08/2020 21:17

Wool.

Warm in winter and cool in summer. We have them on all the beds here and everyone who stays -ends up asking about the duvet and buys their own!

Goose down duvets

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 19/08/2020 21:42

I love my silk one

But other than that wool

Bluntness100 · 19/08/2020 21:43

Another recommendation for goose down. They aren’t cheap, but younger some decent ones on amazon. Fantastic and as a pp said like a big cloud. Cool in summer, warm in winter.

You also need some great pillows..

notheragain4 · 19/08/2020 22:08

Thanks all, I ended up buying a goose down one from soak and sleep, never spent so much on a duvet but hopefully it'll be worth it.

@Bluntness100
I am on a never ending quest for the perfect pillows, I struggle with neck pain. We tried the tempura ones in dreams, £99 each! They felt amazing but it's so much to spend if we don't like them.

The tempur pillows are worth it in my opinion, perhaps buy one first and see how you both like it. My neck pain went, even bring it with me on holiday now 😂😬😱

notheragain4 · 19/08/2020 22:17

@LordGrantham I'm amazed you can carry it, they're so bloody heavy! I wish they came with trial periods like our mattress does!

Oh I've just seen they do a trial, maybe I should try that.

(Oh yes not Tempura, it's not battered ha!)

Hahah, it just has to come! I’ve got the type which doesn’t have a rigid bump for the neck. Used to almost permanently have a neck pain and tightness on one side and this is just worth lugging around now! Also, White Company and Ralph Lauren are very nice for linen... Love my bed 🤩

byvirtue · 19/08/2020 23:31

We had two goose down duvets from soak and sleep. Our original is about 7 years old from when they were DAPW it’s incredible like sleeping under a cloud. The one we bought this year (90% goose) is awful and like sleeping under a crisp packet. We’ve bunged it in a spare room. Might get my toddler to jump on it to see if I can get the crispy sound out of it! Should have returned it.

remainin · 20/08/2020 01:42

The Coop pillows are fantastic.

notheragain4 · 24/08/2020 21:13

@LordGrantham how did you know which pillow to buy? The the cloud one seems popular but is soft, I'm wondering if I'd do better with the medium firmness. Cloud sounds nicer though Grin

OP posts:
LordGrantham · 24/08/2020 21:24

So I tried a very similar pillow out for a few weeks on holiday and knew what consistency I liked. I also looked at the Cloud version but felt it was a bit ‘flatter/thinner’. My medium type has flattened a little over the last 8 months and I suspect the Cloud version would have flattened further. It is a bit of a gamble!

Bookaholic73 · 24/08/2020 21:29

I have goose down duvets and pillows. I personally feel that the pillows are lovely, but not keen on the duvet.
It keeps pricking my legs!

notheragain4 · 24/08/2020 21:49

@LordGrantham thank you, I've ordered the medium on a 30 day trial, I'm assuming if I don't get on with it they'd send me a different firmness if I asked!

@Bookaholic73 when I was a kid I used to love plucking the feathers out!

I’m really fussy with pillows and spend about £100 on each one (100% down). They don’t seem to last as long as they used to though. I reckon you get about 18 months before they don’t feel the same anymore.
