Bookshelves in toilet yay or nay (cookbooks btw)?

We have a lot of cookbooks which I want to put on shelves but we have nowhere in our kitchen to put shelves except the wall facing you as you walk in which is also visible from the front door so I don't want them there as they will look messy, and it's also where the xmas tree goes. DH suggested shelves in our downstairs loo which is between the kitchen and utility and a good size, and 2 shelves would easily go above the shelf thing where the cistern is built in for the toilet iyswim? It feels icky to me, but I'm not sure if I'm being daft? They'd be way above any splash zone even for the most 'artful' men so logically fine hygiene wise but ......... just feels wrong to me, opinions please? TIA

No. Just no.

stardance · 16/06/2020 11:34

Nope sorry!

Apolloanddaphne · 16/06/2020 11:34

I am not a generally fussy person but that does not seem right to me. It's a bit yuck.

ouch321 · 16/06/2020 11:35

Um no.

iknowimcoming · 16/06/2020 11:36

Ha ha! Thanks DH knows better than to go against the wisdom of Mumsnet so back to the drawing board damnit!

No... Hmm

MinorArcana · 16/06/2020 11:37

No.

BovaryX · 16/06/2020 11:39

That is beyond hideous as an idea.

burnoutbabe · 16/06/2020 11:39

i am a yes.

i mean if one is happy to put your toothbrush near a loo, i can't see any issues with books being in there.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/06/2020 11:41

Cookbooks no, comics and funny books maybe.

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/06/2020 11:43

Cookbooks?? 🤢
Why can't they go in the utility, if you don't want them in the kitchen?

Our toothbrushes are nowhere near a loo, they're in a cupboard.
Persipan · 16/06/2020 11:45

That sounds icky to me, too.

Put them on the wall where you were worried they'd look messy, but shelve then by colour so they become a feature.

PickleSarnie · 16/06/2020 11:47

I am very far from being a germaphobe but the idea of keeping cookbooks in a loo is really quite revolting.

Poo particles and cooking really don't go together.

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/06/2020 11:48

Why would a bookshelf "look messy" anyway? People have bookshelves in all sorts of places without finding this an issue, or resorting to hiding the books in the toilet.
Odd as hell.

Pollydron · 16/06/2020 11:48

Cookbooks in the loo would put me off my food. Regardless of how much space there was.

Ours live on a specially built-in shelf above our fridge. Looks great and also keeps them ‘in sight and in mind’.

Is that a possibility for you?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/06/2020 11:52

I wouldn't put them in the loo or the kitchen (they tend to get greasy over time). It depends how many you have, I have the small ones in a drawer and the rest on a shelf of the bookcase in the next room.

Bbq1 · 16/06/2020 11:52

Eurgh...Surely better looking messy on a shelf as you come in than using the toilet as a place to store books especially cookbooks...no.

Happymum12345 · 16/06/2020 11:57

No!!!

Rockbird · 16/06/2020 11:59

Absolutely not! I mean, I know people have often books and magazines in there but reading about what goes in one end while sending it out the other doesn't sit right at all.

Chasingsquirrels · 16/06/2020 12:02

I've got bookshelves in the loo in the way you describe above the cistern, but I wouldn't have cookbooks in there (mine are in a kitchen cupboard). The loo bookshelves have comic & joke books, gardening books & travel books.

IntermittentParps · 16/06/2020 12:03

I don't really have an issue with the hygiene but it's just impractical. Cookbooks should go in the kitchen. Who cares if they're visible from the front door and 'look messy'? you should see my gaff
Maybe find somewhere else to put the Xmas tree?

And anyway, appropriate loo books are humour books, collections of poetry/jokes/aphorisms etc, IMO.

morefun · 16/06/2020 12:03

Yes, why not with a door covering them?

DisobedientHamster · 16/06/2020 12:05

No.

Marleymoo42 · 16/06/2020 12:06

Loo books are a bit of a posh thing.

I would say cookbooks are a no though. Food pictures and toilets don't really mix!
