Design a reading room

I have a home office/study that is never used and generally just full of random crap. I'd love to turn it into a reading room. Massive armchair etc, a sanctuary to retreat to and lose myself in a book. Any suggestions or ideas?

Haha I will have some shelving just won't be full of books - thinking some plants etc. I've ordered the canvas, which rules out the colour chair I was thinking. But I love that painting, imagine being able to afford original art like that

My reading room / nook would be dark colours so would work in there but I'd go for a Dali print in a good frame

I'm liking this reader chair from Loaf now...

I saw that but the room is too small to take something that busy, and I think I'd tire of it

God yes, you'd def need lots of space and white lines for that!

Bridecilla · 09/06/2020 18:29

I'd like a chair and footrest like Mary from Gogglebox has!

PuntoEBasta · 10/06/2020 12:05

If the Loaf chair is in budget how about a replica Eames chair and footrest?

TW2013 · 10/06/2020 12:19

We have a chair a bit like this which is really comfortable. I agree to find a really comfortable chair and go from there.

PuntoEBasta · 10/06/2020 12:25

Have you sat in that style of Loaf chair, OP? They look lovely but they are very low in the back - admittedly I am very tall but that style would probably only reach my shoulder blades.

For maximum comfort for extended reading I would suggest that you need a highback or wingback chair with a fairly upright seated position, with a footstool of similar height to the seat. Have you looked at SofaSofa? We have been so pleased with our stuff from them.

sofasofa.co.uk/high-back-chairs/woburn-highback-chair.html ignore the busy damask, there are other fabric options

sofasofa.co.uk/armchairs/grosvenor-slipper-chair.html this is lovely and comes in some nice velvets like your Loaf choice

Comfiest. Chair. EVER.

We've had it for about two years, I love sitting reading in it. Can be upholstered in fabric if you don't fancy the leather.

That's lovely but doesn't it get in the way at the bottom of your stairs 😂

WhereYouLeftIt · 10/06/2020 16:44

I'd love to have that stairway, SleepingStandingUp !

fluckityfluckfluck · 10/06/2020 16:53

I haven't sat in the loaf one but have been dissuaded a bit by reading about their customer service and also agree is may be a bit low...

I really don't want the Eames look - I want it more feminine and soft

I had that first chair for nursing the three kids - def not the vibe I'm after Grin. Like the other one but still think I'd prefer armchair and footstool looks wise

Yes, it was "passed down" to me by my lovely SIL with that in mind. Sadly the kids never happened but the reading certainly did Smile

fluckityfluckfluck · 10/06/2020 21:09

I did love it then but think I'd have flash backs that aren't exactly relaxing. 😂

I can imagine!

Letthemysterybe · 10/06/2020 23:19

I’d get myself a giant beanbag to get properly comfortable. I just can’t imagine any arm chair being as relaxing as a giant beanbag! True,it ain’t elegant though!

What on earth could be controversial enough about a reading room to warrant a deleted message
