Where can you recommend buying a sofa from?

I'm looking to buy two new sofas, a budget of £1k for both. Where would you recommend buying them?

Bought 2 different suites from Harveys. They were reasonably priced and one of them is 8 years old and still wearing well. Thats why i went to them for the sofas for back room too when we extended.
I always try and but sofas that have zips so you can remove covers n chuck in w\machine @ 30 deg n line dry. The suite looks as good as new again.
I would wait for sales to buy though.

Bluesheep8 · 23/12/2019 07:12

SCS, ours are from there and i love them

Totallycluelessoverhere · 23/12/2019 07:16

Do not buy from scs. They have a Facebook group with all the thousands of customers who have received shoddy sofas which break after a few months and then you have to pay £75 to have the sofa inspected with little hope of them agreeing that the sofa is manufactured badly. Once they have your money they don’t care.
They just sacked most of the customer service people who worked in store and now just have one big customer service centre which you ant get through to.
They get bad reviews on trust pilot deleted.
Just go anywhere except SCS.

M&S. Sofology. DFS. John Lewis. Somewhere you can try them out.

I like the idea of Made.com & some of the other online retailers but am put off by not being able to try.

Craiglwyn2 · 23/12/2019 07:19

I have one from DFS, which is amazingly comfy and seems good quality, although I think they also sell ome super cheaper ones that aren't such good quality so depends what you buy.

I have another sofa from Next which is awful and went saggy and lost a lot of its shape within a month of it being delivered. They sent somebody out to look at it who said it should be like that ( doesn't look like that on their website, so I would definitely avoid next sofas)

MoltoAgitato · 23/12/2019 07:27

Our IKEA sofas have all been completely indestructible, and have replaceable washable covers. Cost less than £500.

Ofitck · 23/12/2019 07:29

I second Ikea. We bought two sofas and an armchair from there in their stocksund range but I wasn't a fan of the covers so we just bought the body of the sofas and bought covers separately from soferia. There was so much more choice and I've already had to wash them (DS and mascara....) and they're brilliant. The price came in the same as IKEA's covers but they're a lovely dove velvet which matches my room scheme very well.

PalindromicUser · 23/12/2019 07:33

We’ve had good sofas from Ikea and Next. Ikea have the added bonus of being mostly washable covers. Laura Ashley squeaked like buggery from day one and looked a mess all the time.

Woopdewoop · 23/12/2019 07:34

@MakeMineALargeProsecco I know what you mean about Made - I had the same problem. They do have a few showrooms though, I went to the one in London recently to see a sofa I had my eye on. It’s now ordered - the quality is excellent. Would get other stuff from there too now.

BacktoMA · 23/12/2019 07:36

Never had an issue with DFS, my parents always had their sodas and they last for years barring the thing I'm about to say.... My main tip would be to pay to upgrade to the firm cushions, my cushions look and feel the same as when we bought them 4 years ago, my mum didn't upgrade last time and they sagged very quickly.

00100001 · 23/12/2019 07:37

Costco ones are great

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2019 07:38

Our Laura Ashley sofas are 16 years old and going strong.

chillichutneysarnie · 23/12/2019 07:39

Furniture village, they were really helpful and I got them earlier than expected as well

AteAllTheAfterEights · 23/12/2019 07:41

Sofa.com we’re absolutely brilliant, maybe over budget but they might have a sale after Christmas?

Roselilly36 · 23/12/2019 07:44

I had nothing but problems with Furniture Village, terrible quality, the sofa on display was nothing like the one we had delivered. It was a lot of hassle to sort things out. Definitely wouldn’t recommend FV to anyone.

Egghead68 · 23/12/2019 07:46

My Debenhams one is OK.

RexDangerVest · 23/12/2019 07:48

We've just got a lovely one from sofa.com

Sausagis · 23/12/2019 07:48

My M&S sofa has gone saggy and isn't very old. I have a G-Plan recliner which is 3 years old and as-new but what I paid would be out your budget (never know in sales tho!)

Mumthedogsbeensick · 23/12/2019 07:49

Our Sofology one is crap. The arms on the large sofa are wobbly after only 18 months.

pinkprosseco · 23/12/2019 07:49

M&S are by far the best we have bought: comfortable and hard wearing. Laura Ashley look slightly better but M&S were winners for us. DFS don't wear well IMO.

Contractbother · 23/12/2019 07:50

Furniture Village terrible. Bought a display sofa and had it returned because it was faulty. They didn't want to give us a full refund. MAKE SURE YOU READ THEIR CONTRACTS. They were meant to point this out at point of sale but didn't. A few weeks later I saw our sofa on a screen in there (had to go back for another reason) and a customer was complaining about it to them so they'd resold it without telling her what the problem was. All the staff were slimey and over helpful at point of sale and once we'd purchased they were rude.

ShirleyPhallus · 23/12/2019 07:51

I like the idea of Made.com & some of the other online retailers but am put off by not being able to try.

There is a showroom in London, plus one for habitat and some of the other big online type sofa places

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/12/2019 07:51

Ikea. We recently bought 2 extorp. £299 with washable covers. Easy to build. Very comfy. All reviews I read they came out on top.

Twooter · 23/12/2019 07:53

We’ve had next sofas and they’ve lasted really well.

MakeMineALargeProsecco · 23/12/2019 07:54

@ShirleyPhallus - I live in Scotland!

It's not practical to go to London to try a sofa!
