Neutral paint colour for all over?

We’ve moved into a new house and need to decorate the whole house.

I’d potentially like one colour for all over the house. In our last house we did this and had a grey pain from Dulux “Pebble Shore”. It was actually a really lovely grey colour and many people commented on it and copied us!

Anyway we don’t want grey again this time as it seems like everyone has it and also we want something slightly different to the last house

DH doesn’t want white but we’d consider an off white.

I’d like something not too warm and not too cool, not a full in grey but not a cream either.

Maybe these sorts of colours

www.dulux.co.uk/en/colour-details/h_white/l_Living%20room/s_Walls?tab=2#white

From a quick look I like Vintage Chandelier, Milky Pail and Summer Linen

If you have any specific colour recommendations of colours that work for you then please let me know

I almost feel we got lucky with Pebble Shore as it was the perfect grey. Now I want the perfect beige / brown / greige

(DH has expressed and interest in “brown”)

I’ve used Bianco, Flake & Bone White on walls/ceilings.

Pointing from F&B is also good.

Depends on how much light and direction as to how the paint will look.

Thank you. I like flake white

I need to order some samples

There are just too many paint colours and it’s difficult to know what they will look like from a tiny image online

Dulux Egyptian Cotton would possibly suit. We have it in a bedroom and it ranges from dark cream to grey depending on how the light hits it.

Dulux Egyptian Cotton

Sounds good

Will have a look and then order some sample pots

Another vote for Dulux Egyptian Cotton.

cortex10 · 12/05/2019 17:51

Also like Egyptian Cotton

AliceRR · 13/05/2019 00:15

Ooh Egyptian Cotton is popular!

I have come across it before actually but will need to give it a proper look

F and B skimming stone, or a copy of. It'd look slightly different in every room depending on the light.

Buddywoo · 13/05/2019 07:41

Egyptian Cotton from me, too.

NaturalBornWoman · 13/05/2019 07:45

I've just done two rooms in 'white'. I eventually selected 10 different samples and painted them on a board which I could then move around. Some of the ones I thought I'd like best were very yellow in my rooms. I went with F&B Wevet in the end which I initially thought was too grey but is just right in the light.

Also looking for the perfect Not White or Grey.
Our house is quite dark so I think I need something lighter than Egyptian Cotton.
Currently our walls are Dulux Buttermilk but we've changed the carpet and the walls are too yellowy.
Currently dithering between Summer Linen and Almond White - which just might be the most boring paint colour in the world

imablackstarnotapopstar · 13/05/2019 08:01

Dulux natural hessian is perfect

riverislands · 14/05/2019 18:36

School house white?

intelligentPutty · 14/05/2019 23:08

We have b and q mix of farrow and ball skimming stone upstairs and elephants breath downstairs in our house
It is amazing how both of these colours are so affected by lighting.

Would definitely recommend elephants breath as it looks so many different shades depending on light (just google it for details).

We had egyptian cotton in last house. It's a lovely neutral.

EmmaC78 · 14/05/2019 23:11

I wasn't keen on Egyptian Cotton (which I discovered after painting my whole house in it!). I prefer Crown Toasted Almond.

From a quick google

Natural hessian is good. I find it v similar to Egyptian cotton

School house white looks like it could be perfect (unless DH thinks too grey!)

Timeless is more cream than I had wanted but I like it

Toasted almond is too warm I think

Elephants breath and skimming stone are interesting. They do look much warmer or cooler depending on the pic / lighting

I would also thoroughly recommend elephants breath, we have it in our living room and I plan to use it again in our new house.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/05/2019 11:07

I've got natural hessian in a south facing sitting room - it's a lovely warm cream but not pinky. I get lots of compliments on it when people come round, which I find odd because it looks so neutral to me. It's a good plain colour.

Nikhedonia · 16/05/2019 22:27

Timeless is great as is Natural Calici

Nikhedonia · 16/05/2019 22:27

Little Greene Rolling Fog - pale is a great greigey off white. We have it in our kitchen and dining room and refer to it as dark white. The room is south facing and on sunny days, the (grotty) brilliant white that was in there was painful, but this colour has just nicely taken the glare away but is lovely and warm toned on dark days and at night.

StylishDuck · 16/05/2019 23:16

I have Summer Linen in my bedroom, Egyptian Cotton in the kitchen/dining room and Pebble Shore in the front room. Love them all.

StylishDuck · 16/05/2019 23:16

Oh and I have Timeless in the downstairs loo!
