This is not my house, photos off Pinterest.

But my house is the same layout.

Decorating this weekend and thinking of going for grey, then a blue/teal round the fireplace.

It's Dulux Pebble Shore and Mint Macaroon.

Is the two tone look a bit dated now though?

I like it. The colour adds a bit of interest.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2019 12:43

I don't think two tone is any more or less dated than grey TBH. I like those two shades together though - if you like it, go for it! Paint is easy to change anyway.

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2019 12:45

If you like it go for it

They had two tone around the fireplace in new house we bought I really really disliked it so couldn’t wait to go over it with just one colour

Coralnails · 10/01/2019 12:53

True it is only paint so easy enough to change.

Hadn't considered two colours but found that photo and really liked it.

I know grey is the new magnolia, but I am pretty boring and do just tend to follow trends.

I think two tone is fine and those colours together are pretty.

But that is the most boring room I have ever seen!

Dextrodependant · 10/01/2019 13:01

I quite like it, looks easy to live with.

thenightsky · 10/01/2019 13:03

I like it. It looks fresh and clean. Don't understand why a PP says its the most boring looking room ever. It just looks neat and tidy to me, but still comfortable.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2019 16:24

I think the so called "dated" look isn't so much two-tone as a "feature wall" when one is significantly different.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2019 16:25

I think one person's boring is another's calm and peaceful. :) It's just a difference in taste.

Repertory · 10/01/2019 16:29

I agree with IHeart. Colours are fine, but it’s a room that looks as if the sole decorating criterion was ‘Is this inoffensive?’

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2019 16:36

I think greys and other washed out colours are a bit dated and meh. I like something a bit bolder but that's just personal taste.

Coralnails · 10/01/2019 16:42

Soupdragon that's it, I didn't really know what to call it, it's not a feature wall, but not all one colour.

I don't mind if people think it's boring, I like boring, safe decor.

It's quite funny, because using colours on the walls will actually be quite a bold move for us, when we moved in we painted the whole house in Dulux Timeless because the hated the previous owners chosen colours. We are slowly making it our own.

I like it but is your room north facing at all? I had duck egg accessories (not even paint!) in my NF kitchen and the room just looked completely icy blue. It was really depressing! I’ve had to get pinky/salmon colours to bring a bit of warmth into it.

Harebellmeadow · 10/01/2019 16:46

Sofas in fireplace area too far apart from each other so not cosy. Shelves are staged and show clean taste rather than personality of the owner. But i like the colours. Maybe also wallpaper on one wall, the little greene one with golden napoleonic bumblebees? A bit more texture needed to reduce the chilly feel. A welsh blanket in complimenting colours perhaps? A flash of contrasting colour also needed, eg olive green or mauve. And some art and plants.

Coralnails · 10/01/2019 16:48

South East facing room.

Bluewidow · 10/01/2019 16:54

I would also take the teal
Colour onto the far wall -where the patio doors are. That way it’s not
Just the chimney breast that you are marking a feature of and it flows a little better.

Tactically I’m a colour freak so I would do mainly teal and do the chimney grey.

PickAChew · 10/01/2019 17:00

The overall effect is lovely and calming. I like it.

ILoveChristmasLights · 10/01/2019 17:03

Personally I don’t like those colours together. I’m not wild on the ‘teal’ (just looks pale blue on my screen though) - look like a bathroom or at a push bedroom colour.

I like grey, I have/will have contrasting greys. Yep. Shoot me now 🤣 but it’s my house and I like it, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not that you asked, but...I don’t like the way there’s two parts of the lounge either. Without knowing the full layout, it just looks like it should be a dining room.

RaininSummer · 10/01/2019 17:07

I don't but only because I like colour and cosiness. It is very clean and stylish looking. If you like it then do it.

Bluntness100 · 10/01/2019 17:07

I like it and think it's good to add a bit of interest, all one colour is a bit dull.

MisstoMrs · 10/01/2019 17:11

We have similar but with the colour in the far room as it’s the dining space. Works well for us!

Coralnails · 10/01/2019 17:12

Christmaslights, in our house that other room bit, where the sofa is, is our dining room, we have doors separating the two.

Also funny you should say about it being a bathroom colour, it is the colour we have in our bathroom.

Blue/green/duck egg is my favourite colour though.

frompampastobroadway · 10/01/2019 17:18

Too sterile but don't mind the colours, it's characterless though. Sofa looks odd in the other bit on its own.

IncomingCannonFire · 10/01/2019 18:08

I like it. Looks fresh and cosy.
(Steals idea for next redecoration).

CantStandMeow · 10/01/2019 18:12

Is it not just a feature wall? More muted than some I've seen but still looks like a feature wall.
