Cutting in debate! With pics

Can you please help to solve a battle, we are decorating and one of us thinks that we need to leave a small line at the top of the wall, the other thinks no lien should be left and the paint line should be flush with the ceiling.

I fear that WW3 is about to erupt, as neither of us are budging.

Which way should it be?

Fairylea · 26/10/2018 15:53

No gap.

Seriously79 · 26/10/2018 15:54

I knew it!!!! Boyfriend wants the gap, apparently 'that's now it's done' I thought it looked weird!

Daughter of a decorator - no gap.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/10/2018 15:55

No gap. Leaving a gap looks untidy and unfinished. And wrong.

flowery · 26/10/2018 15:56

Why would you leave a gap? Wouldn’t that look a bit odd?

Is he just leaving a gap because he can’t do it neatly and trying to pass it off as finished instead? WinkGrin

Her0utdoors · 26/10/2018 16:01

No gap. A friend was of gap persuasion, her cutting in looked weird.

MrsLettuce · 26/10/2018 16:05

Gap at the top looks a mess and is wrong. Coving wouldn't help - he'd want a gap under it

Seriously79 · 26/10/2018 16:14

😂😂😂 I've just shown him these messages, apparently I have delivered this wrong 🙄 my way was right to the top, and some of it went on the ceiling, yes not ideal but can be tidied and I think this looks better.

Send the troops WW3 is about to commence! 😂

There are lots of sites on the web detailing how to paint a wall up to the ceiling. No mention of gaps!

DBN1 · 26/10/2018 17:03

Mind the gap! Grin

flowery · 26/10/2018 17:21

Surely the chances of leaving a straight gap, consistent in width the whole way round the room, are much lower than the chances of keeping the join between colours straight with the assistance of the ceiling?!

LKRJM · 26/10/2018 17:23

Wilkos do a great cutting in tape for about £3 a roll it made ours lovely and straight rather than get any on the ceiling - but definitely NO GAP 😂

Racecardriver · 26/10/2018 17:24

Wtf. Who leaves a gap?

Justkeeprollingalong · 26/10/2018 17:52

No gap definitely

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/10/2018 17:54

No gap!

BlueJava · 26/10/2018 17:57

Definitely no gap - but does need to be a clear, straight edge!

IncomingCannonFire · 26/10/2018 18:00

He may be confused by the term shadow gap. But that is generally where a suspended ceiling meets wall.
Shall I mansplain further?
No gap. (Architect here)

Seriously79 · 26/10/2018 20:11

Thanks for all your comments, we have been in hysterics reading them 😂 it's fair to say the ego has been dented. He's at work tomorrow so I will tidy it up then x

No gap. Get a tapered paintbrush - that's how I do it without getting paint on the ceiling.

SoyDora · 27/10/2018 19:41

No gap!

AnyFucker · 27/10/2018 19:43

No gap. Angled paintbrush and good quality masking tape. Job done.

iwillkeepthishouseclean · 27/10/2018 19:44

No gap that's just weird !
