Please recommend me a colour for sofas that is 'adaptable'

We are having a garden room installed, and using it as somewhere extra to sit, read etc. I would like to keep it quite simple, and have just the minimum we would need in there. Thinking of two small sofas, a coffee table, a small fridge and a butchers block/free standing kitchen unit (to store glasses, snacks, some crockery etc). Maybe a footstool.

I want to avoid colours that we already have in our house and go for something different. We already have gold/neutral in our family room, and red/chocolate/neutral in our sitting room. This is an opportunity to have a change. But I am a practical sort, so I need to choose something that lends itself to looking different with different colour cushions, a throw etc. But I don't want to go too safe and neutral either. And it needs to be fairly hardwearing (but not leather).

Flooring is oak.

All ideas appreciated!

Have a look at conservatory furniture.

It will be different in style to living room furniture even if you have it in a neutral colour.

Example of conservatory furniture

WellTidy · 20/08/2018 14:33

Thank you for the suggestion Rabbits but I think we will go for something that isn't wicker. We will have a patio outside the garden room that will have rattan style all weather lounge furniture, so I think inside we will go for something that is a bit more like living room furniture. Something along the lines of this style House by John Lewis but not in grey, would be ideal.

Reading back my OP, I wasn't clear, sorry. It is colour suggestions that I am looking for, not shape/style.

I have a charcoal grey sofa which I really like with cream and teal cushions/throws
Also works with yellow, and I've had a deep purple scheme with it before

LucyFox · 20/08/2018 14:40

Charcoal grey, navy or airforce blue or a wine red could work
I would go neutral & accessorise with coloured cushions/throws etc

LucyFox · 20/08/2018 14:41

Actually for a garden room how about a sage green with pink, yellow, dark green type accents?

HollowTalk · 20/08/2018 14:43

If it's likely to fade, you could go for cream anyway. I would love a room like that!

fruitbrewhaha · 20/08/2018 14:44

How would you describe your taste? Boundary pushing, or safe? Modern or colourful and boho? Casual or formal?

Soft sage greens and creams work well together would wood ina conservatory. Or duck egg blue and cream or soft grey.

Or you go for a darker scheme, dark grey. With dark metal plant pots and tables.

mistermagpie · 20/08/2018 14:51

Charcoal gray goes with loads - teal, lemon, red, navy, pastels etc. It's neutral without being beige.

WellTidy · 20/08/2018 15:02

Thanks all.

I would say my taste was traditional, but I do like prints like spots, stripes etc. I also really like texture.

The room is south facing, so will have a lot of light. We have blinds, so I am not worried about fade, just giving an idea of the light that it will have. The wall that faces into the garden is pretty much all glass (bifold doors) and there will be a picture window in one of the side walls too.

So, the options:

Charcoal grey - I like this very much as I can see how it could look different with different accent colours like pink, purple, yellow green. Pretty much anything

Sage green - again, I like this (this is very much to my taste for a garden room) and I can see how it would look different with pinks or yellows or creams or greys.

Navy/airforce blue is not really to my taste. I really love it when someone else has it but I don't think it is for me long term.

Wine - not for me either as that was the colour of my school uniform and I still avoid it 25 years on!

Hollow (fellow The Bridge lover here) I know, I am so excited!

To answer the question as to what is my taste - traditional (I think), colourful, casual, with lots of texture. I am very practical though - everything has to be hardwearing - stains easy to remove, wipe up etc.

Just to add that the room is going to be at the end of the garden - just to help you all with the visualising Smile

Gutted that I cannot see yours for some reason Ollivander - it is to do with my PC, I know, as I sometimes cannot see other photos. I will take a look when I MN with my tablet tonight.

Green

Bookishandblondish · 20/08/2018 15:28

I had a duck blue sofa which went with most things it was forced to sit alongside - mishmash of own and landlord furniture. This included golden rug/ chocolate sofas and neutral sofas. Flooring was oak or carpet.

WellTidy · 20/08/2018 15:46

Ah yes Ollivander I can see how that charcoal grey would go with everything quite easily. Thanks!

Duck egg blue is one that I have thought about too. I am unsure about it as the pale gold curtains that we have in our family room mean that we could go with duck egg blue in there if we are going to change that room up. There isn't much that the pale gold that we have would go with apart from neutrals (which we now have) and duck egg blue and cream! For that reason, I think I will keep the duck egg blue for the family room should the decorating bug be catching in the rest of the house!

I have a garden room at the end of my garden, it has no folding doors and an outside seating area.

We went for a cream sofa and cream wall with a wooden floor..
I have accessorised with pale blue and bought a lovely spotty throw from Laura Ashley and pale blue cushions from there too.

We have blinds on the windows and lovely marble effect side tables ( nicer than they sound) I also have an artificial tree in the corner and some lovely wicker type lighting.

I had to do it a bit at a time as I had trouble visualising the finished effect but it is a lovely calm tranquil room and I love it!

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 20/08/2018 15:57

Bi folding doors

WellTidy · 20/08/2018 15:58

Sounds so similar to what we are getting dontknow! Do you by any chance have any photos? I would love to see it. I hadn't thought about having plants inside. That sounds lovely. I've never see wicker lights - do you have a link by any chance please?

I would definitely go for a pale green, and wooden furniture - maybe oak. It could really make the room "flow" between the rest of the house and the garden, if you see what I mean?

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 20/08/2018 16:10

I have a couple of pictures of the inside not sure they do it justice
