Help deciding on hallway tiles

Hello. Can anyone give me some advice on these tiles? I really love them, but I'm worried that they're too bold/busy when laid. In the link you can see them laid on their own in a bathroom or with a grey border in a hall. I do particularly like them with the grey border but I don't think we can do that because our hall isn't one straight line. It's more like this image attached.

I like the tiles but I prefer them without the border and would think the shape of your hallway would make a border look a bit fussy.

Hmmm think it depends on the type of house. Large Victorian with high ceilings etc I think it's look great, a new style house it may look too much.

B00dyM4ry · 19/08/2018 10:06

That is a big area and it is quite a busy tile. These are nice too www.tonsoftiles.co.uk/laura-ashley-mr-jones-charcoal-wall-floor-tiles-33x33cm.html

B00dyM4ry · 19/08/2018 10:09

Something smaller might work better in a hall - easier to deal with funny shapes and more traditional. I've seen that grey one used a lot in bathrooms.

Frustratingbedtimes · 19/08/2018 10:50

Thank you everyone.
It's an Edwardian house. I'd say the ceilings are fairly high. I should have put some dimensions on there. I think it's quite a small space, but yes it's definitely a bit fiddly with all the corners. It's just under 2 metres from the front door to the lounge, and the long straight part is about 4 metres.
B00dyM4ry, thank you for that suggestion. I had looked at those tiles. I half like them, but there is something about the woven look that I don't like. I'd also prefer to choose a darker colour for such a high traffic area. I see your point about the size of the tiles.
One other reason I thought these might be good is that our kitchen tiles are cream, and the dining room is grey wood, so the transitions would go quite well. I'll keep looking though. Perhaps there is a smaller slightly less busy pattern out there.

I came across this company recently www.cement-tiles.com/encaustic-cement-tiles-online-shop/index.php?type=patterns - I've seen the top left hand corner one (dark grey with a white star) in situ and it's stunning. Not cheap though, alas (£70 a square meter)

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/08/2018 10:57

We're about to lay those in our kitchen, but in black and white. Was also a bit concerned about the impact of the pattern but have decided to go for it! Victorian house.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/08/2018 11:04

We also considered these www.britishceramictile.com/laura-ashley/mr-jones-charcoal-floor-la52000 or these www.britishceramictile.com/laura-ashley/wicker-charcoal-floor-la51980 or these www.britishceramictile.com/hd/concrete-matt-wall-floor-bct14423
I think I would have been happy with any of them.

Frustratingbedtimes · 19/08/2018 12:16

Thank you both,
The encaustic cement tiles have an exciting number of choices but I've read that they require resealing every year?
Ihaventgottimeforthis, I do like the second option there. These tiles were in the bathroom of a holiday house we've just visited where 8 out of 10 of us got the Noro virus! That bathroom has bad memories attached! But I suppose with time we would forget that... I do think that is perhaps a better amount of pattern than my original choice.

Ihaventgottimeforthis, I'd love to see your completed floor when it's done if you would mind sharing it?

Yes I definitely will, just check back in about ten years time Grin SadGin
We're doing it ourselves due to budgetary constraints (ha ha) so the timescale has slipped rather! Neighbouring rooms have original parquet & original hall tiles (we think from initial peer under old carpet) so it should work well. Our inspiration is this design arnoldskitchens.co.uk/portfolios/dorset-bespoke-kitchen/ with the devonstone floor tiles.

Well that's the idea anyway. Time will tell!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/08/2018 13:03

But seriously it should be done by end of summer holidays. Otherwise I will have a nervous breakdown.

Frustratingbedtimes · 19/08/2018 13:34

Ha ha, good luck! I'm sure it'll look great.

I like the ones you linked to in your OP. Weve just tiled our porch and it drove me mad choosing the tiles (went with quarry in the end) but I liked what this company have and the one I've linked is a nice pattern in your colours. They're not cheap though Shock . I was amazed by how.many places sell tiles when I searched!

Frustratingbedtimes · 20/08/2018 20:57

Thanks Misty9,
Yes, I like that pattern, and I've not seen anything like it anywhere else. I do think they might look a bit more like outside tiles though. Great for a porch.
I haven't given up on my choice in the original post though I am still looking. We're also renovating two bathrooms, so I'm on the lookout for lots of tiles at the moment so all links very welcome.

Hello - these are our cloakroom tiles. Porcelain from fired earth. Super practical and as I'm normally a neutral / greige person, they make me smile Smile

Sorry to hijack, it has anyone got any ideas for a tiled porch but not in a period house? I love the ones on here, but our house is 70s (currently has orange/green porch tiles 😁) and I don't think patterned ones would suit.

Frustratingbedtimes · 22/08/2018 15:16

Nice Bezm! What are you going to do with the walls?

wowfudge · 23/08/2018 23:40

I really like those tiles with the grey border OP and think they would look great in an Edwardian house. How about using them in the square area in the middle of the hall, with the plain grey tile border and plain grey in the two narrower areas?

Frustratingbedtimes · 26/08/2018 12:27

Sorry wowfudge, I missed your response. Yes thanks, that might work, though I am worried that the strip towards the kitchen will look a bit strange as it would be quite a lot of grey there.

Watching this thread with interest as I’m looking to tile hallway in our Victorian house. Floor at moment is hideous brown Lino!
Some of these tiling options are gorgeous!
I’m looking at black and white for us but really like the tiles shared here.

wowfudge · 26/08/2018 22:06

You could dot the patterned tiles around. To be perfectly honest, I think they'll look fab in an Edwardian house.

Frustratingbedtimes · 26/08/2018 22:47

Thanks. I think I might go for the box in the middle and then two lines leading to the kitchen and dining room in a sort of z-shaped pattern (if I can persuade my husband)
