I need to buy a feather winter duvet that's good quality but not expensive. Is there such a thing? Any tips on where to look?

We got ours from TK Maxx, it was about £65 for a down one. It’s like sleeping under a cloud! I’m very happy with it.

Thanks @barleysugar

Anyone recommend ikea ones? Thinking of going next week.

@Hullabalooo I got a winter weight feather quilt from ikea over 10 years ago, it's still fantastic! And I even machine washed it at home once when ex dp's cat peed on it! It dried and fluffed up again lovely.

I got a thin summer one from M&S in sale, absolute bargain, half price was about £37. Also fab.

GreyCloudsToday · 18/08/2018 20:37

Yes, I just got a lightweight one and it's as good as my John Lewis one. Go for it...

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/08/2018 20:40

I got one from Next years ago and it lasted a good decade or so. It lasted really well and visitors staying over always said how lovely the duvet was. I recently replaced it with a Soak & Sleep one. If that lasts half as long, it'll be doing well.

Hullabalooo · 18/08/2018 20:40

Ooh brill! Ta for the recommendations. I looked in home sense but they weren't cheap.

Was going to recommend Ikea. Have down pillows and duvet they are great. It’s been through the wash and tumble dryer when ds was a toddler and vomited on it fluffed up again fine.
Just replaced the pillows today had them mor eye airs than I care to think about.

Soak and Sleep.

Frolicacid · 18/08/2018 23:09

We have one from next. Very pleased with it. Went for the 3 in one so you get a thin one, a medium one and a think one. Fab!

Materlan have take down quilt which are 20. They had quite a good selection and you feel what they are like.

Hullabalooo · 19/08/2018 08:09

Thanks. I'll check next out. I think soap and sleep might be beyond my budget unless they have a sale on.

Has anyone ever bought one from Groupon or living social?

Hmmmm having been told how they get the feathers from the ducks etc I would not ever consider buying a feather or down duvet

Honeyroar · 19/08/2018 08:14

Sorry to rain on your parade, but cheap feather duvets, in fact most feather duvets are made in extremely cruel ways. If you possibly can, try and buy ethically produced duvets (I think John Lewis does them). Only putting this out there as a lot of people don't know and may care (I had no idea what I was buying..)

fieryginger · 19/08/2018 08:58

Got to say, my Argos ones are 5 years old and have been so good, I bought them for the whole family. They were from Argos, not the Argos brand ones, I can't remember which ones they were though, but go and see what they have.

These ones are fab!

wonkylegs · 19/08/2018 11:00

I've always got them from HofF sale they've always had a hefty discount on really good bed but don't know if that's still an option with the latest financial issues.

wonkylegs · 19/08/2018 11:03
  • bedding not bed
Aprilshowersinaugust · 19/08/2018 11:06

The meat isn't ripped off while the animal is alive though.
I am vegetarian anyway and don't have feathered items either.
As a civilised society a cruelty free item should be a standard choice surely?

Slartybartfast · 19/08/2018 11:09

according to the article linked back in 2009 just 2% were treated so badly,

Hullabalooo · 19/08/2018 15:03

Oh cripes I really hadn't factored that in!
How do i check for an ethical rating? Whilst bearing in mind I'm a single mum with little money in need of a warm duvet keeping electricity costs down etc. Suggestions welcome
