Glitter paint for bathroom - yay or nay?

DH thinks it's chavvy - I think it'll make going to the loo and doing make up more exciting.

Thinking brilliant white with subtle sparkle. Although may accidentally throw more in...

What's MN opinion?

I’m on your DH’s side, sorry!

WisestIsShe · 19/05/2018 21:21

It's a no from me too, sorry.

ICantCopeAnymore · 19/05/2018 21:21

It's the chavviest thing ever.

MaireadMacSweeney · 19/05/2018 21:24

Well I disagree with the MN snobs majority and think it would look lovely. In fact I plan to paint my bathroom walls with it too.

ragmayo · 19/05/2018 21:28

I think it's your home do you should do as you like!

troodiedoo · 19/05/2018 21:31

Very chavvy. But it's your gaff.

daphine2004 · 19/05/2018 21:34

Each to their own. I am thinking that when you come to redecorate glittery paint may be a nightmare to change. Would you consider wallpaper for the same effect?

AlonsoTigerHeart · 19/05/2018 21:35

I don't mind it but I can't imagine scraping it off when you want a change

lookingforbutterflies · 19/05/2018 21:35

I've got it and love it. I don't think I'm a chav generally 🤷🏻‍♀️

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 19/05/2018 21:35

Nay

It's not like that though, it's very subtle and smooth (just little sparkles that catch the light) and can be covered just like regular paint.

ICantCopeAnymore · 19/05/2018 21:55

I'm a member of that DIY on a Budget Facebook page and the things some of those people have done to council houses are barbaric. I feel so sorry for the next tenants.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 19/05/2018 22:37

Was there a real need to add ‘council houses’ rather than just ‘houses’?

MeanTangerine · 19/05/2018 22:40

Glitter paint? On a wall? In a house?

Nay.

franktheskank · 19/05/2018 23:45

If you like it then have it, I have glitter carpets in my bedroom and dressing room, it's very subtle but I love it, and I live in a Georgian mansion and my kids go to private school, so not chavvy or in a council house.

elephantscanring · 19/05/2018 23:48

Yes! Do it! I have glitter paint in my hall. Gorgeous.

loveablether · 19/05/2018 23:48

Thanks for opinions...may look into alternatives but may still go for it. Off to Facebook diy on a budget page too haha - remember seeing something about someone wallpapering their floor instead of laying a carpet 😣

It could be cute in a small bathroom or cloakroom but I wouldn't fancy painting over it.

OlBitey · 19/05/2018 23:50

It is very tacky. But tacky done well can be really fun. Do it with a nudge and a wink

loveablether · 19/05/2018 23:50

Just saw a review for fb page mentioned

"If you want to diy or die and be unsafe this is the place to be. Top tips on how to die from electrocution, Glitter burns, Fablon and tarton paint. Dont forget to twist and tape your wires....then roll in glitter"

For example, I have always wanted one of these beauties.

Unless you live in a £££ house designed by a fantastic interior designer, glitter is never going to look sophisticated in an ordinary house, if that's what you're aiming to achieve.

But I do think touches of fun and silliness make a house a home. But you have to be in on the joke!

Glitter paint for bathroom - yay or nay?
ICantCopeAnymore · 20/05/2018 06:03

Alonso - Yes.

When I had my council house, someone had used glitter paint in the hall. They'd painted the tiles in the bathroom, painted the wood with black gloss and covered the kitchen worktops in Fablon.

We didn't have a choice other than accept the house in its state. We couldn't afford at the time to sort out everything they'd messed up, as replacing tiles and replastering walls was beyond our budget, as I'm sure would be the case for many emergency housed council tenants.

As a house buyer or private renter, you'd have the option to turn down the properly, or knock money off the price which you could spend on getting rid of things like that.

So yes, the addition of council was necessary.

RLOU88 · 20/05/2018 06:09

I have it on one wall in bedroom and I love it. It comes out really subtle (as in you can hardly see it with one sachet in) even with two it just catches the light.

Monty27 · 20/05/2018 06:21

Good lord no

QueenOfThorns · 20/05/2018 06:25

I would, it’s just a bit of fun! But then I’m guilty of having owned the toilet seat above and am planning to redecorate ours with glittery tiles Grin

Also, I’m definitely not a chav.
