Has anyone solved the pile clothes on a chair problem?

Our bedroom is lovely - but totally ruined by clothes piling up on any available surface. This happens when clothes aren't quite dirty enough for washing etc or we have different clothes to change into over the course of the day.

It probably boils down to laziness sometimes but is there a miracle solution- not to laziness but to the clothing clutter?

Easy. Wash or wear. Or fold

Everyone in our house has a worn it once drawer. It is actually a plastic drawer that Ikea used to sell for their Pax wardrobes which has now been replaced by their wooden drawers.

The children come home from school, change out of their school uniform and change into joggers and a t shirt. They are literally in them for 4 hours. So when they get changed for bed this outfit goes into their worn it once drawer. They then wear it again the next night.

Dh hangs his work trousers on the hook on the back of our bedroom door where we also hang dressing gowns. Everything else, jeans etc go into his worn it once drawer. The children's are single wardrobe drawers, mine and Dh's are double wardrobe drawers.

We used to have a chair which Dh draped clothes over. I removed the chair Grin

I regularly go through the children's worn it drawer to make sure nothing is festering.

I was told by an image consultant (hired by my MA course to help us get ready for work) that worn clothes shouldn't be put away as they need to air or else the slight damp from wearing them makes them smellier and attracts moths more than leaving them out. So I wouldn't go for putting them away. But then I have a chair because I want to leave clothes on it, occasionally sort them when the pile gets big. Back of door is taken up by pjs for lounging in.

I didn't think moths were really a problem any more? I've never even seen a clothes moth.

Thank you to those who have explained why you can't (apparently) put clothes back in the wardrobe and have to leave them out on a chair. I have been putting worn clothes back in the wardrobe or chest of drawers my whole life (am in mid 30s) and never had a problem with moths.

And for those who are saying that they can't then keep track of how many times they've worn clothes if they put them back - why can't you apply the "sniff and check for stains" system each time you take off clothes? There isn't a magical number of wearing times, after which you HAVE to wash them! If they don't smell and aren't stained, I just wear them again! So, jeans - probably several wears. Pants - change every day (!). Jumper - probably several wears. T-shirt - I really don't sweat much in winter, so probably once or twice. Etc. So it doesn't matter how many times I've worn them.

Still quite baffled by all this!

We definitely have clothes-eating moths, I clap them dead when I can (they're the small ones), and see the holes in my jumpers if I've not been careful with e.g. smelly stuff/putting special anti-moth bag around them.
