Has anyone solved the pile clothes on a chair problem?

Our bedroom is lovely - but totally ruined by clothes piling up on any available surface. This happens when clothes aren't quite dirty enough for washing etc or we have different clothes to change into over the course of the day.

It probably boils down to laziness sometimes but is there a miracle solution- not to laziness but to the clothing clutter?

I put items to be washed in the wash basket and anything i want to wear again i put back in the wardrobe. I fail to see what the issue is. There is no need for piles of clothes lying about the bedroom at all.

I have a shelf in my wardrobe just for the 'not quite dirty' clothes. I just have to remember to use it...

TheKitchenWitch · 02/05/2016 19:06

Less clothes is definitely one way to go. DH has masses of clothes, he can't get rid of anything, so he will, if left to his own devices, have 7 tops out, 3 trousers, a couple of shirts, shorts, tracksuit bottoms and at least 3 cardigan/jackets 😡
He could go for weeks and weeks without actually having to wash any clothes before running out.
I, however, have pared down my wardrobe to the bare minimum which means I wear clothes and then wash them. Revolutionary 😁

I have "solved" the problem by just putting all dh's stuff in the laundry basket every couple of days to stop it piling up. I'd rather wash it and put it away when it's not entirely necessary than live with the Clothes Chair Mountain.

Agree with people who say a rack of hooks: fantastic! Clears the room like nothing else.
I have 6 on the wall behind the door and 2 on the door.
All worn clothes that don't yet need washing go there.

Bamaluz · 02/05/2016 20:31

A towel stand, neater than a chair because it's lower down and you can fold and drape clothes over it.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 02/05/2016 20:33

Bluesky the issue, for me, is that I'd hate to inadvertently leave a worn item in the wardrobe or chest for the rest of the season. I suppose I only feel comfortable storing away freshly washed clothes. I appreciate this may not be logical Smile.

WhoisLucasHood · 02/05/2016 20:37

I have a drawer in my wardrobe just for this, it's an easy to reach drawer to dump my 'to be worn again clothes' in with the washing basket underneath.

GreenMarkerPen · 02/05/2016 20:38

well, the dc have a basket (small plastic laundry one) each for any item they can wear again (pj's live there during the day.
dh and I have a drawer each.

kinkytoes · 02/05/2016 20:45

I'd forget all about my part worn clothes if they were hidden away in a drawer somewhere Blush

leliondemer · 02/05/2016 20:52

We have this problem. Have just read it out to dh and suggested a back of door solution. He said, no, what's needed is a walk in wardrobe.

blueskyinmarch · 02/05/2016 21:28

But what do you think will happen to your part worn clothes? Nothing, that is what will happen. Nothing at all. They will be absolutely fine.

blueskyinmarch · 02/05/2016 21:30

Btw i think this is perhaps one of the weirdest threads i have ever read. I am completely bemused by it!

GruffaloMoggy · 02/05/2016 21:43

Mine go in a small basket in the bathroom, folded up. No chair in bedroom.

BaBaBaBoomBoom · 02/05/2016 21:48

Ours end up on the floor-drobe.. Lurking for ideas!

Wigeon · 02/05/2016 21:48

I am really baffled why you wouldn't put clothes which have been worn but aren't smelly or actually dirty back in the wardrobe or chest of drawers? I don't wash every item of clothing after wearing it once. I sniff it, inspect it for stains / dirt, and if it isn't smelly and isn't stained, I put it back with all the other clothes of its type!

Can someone please explain? I genuinely don't get it!

Toomanycats99 · 02/05/2016 21:48

Pj's over the end of bed. To be worn again o hanger over wardrobe door. Although currebtkyvredecorating and getting pax wardrobes. One on the pic had an external hook on one end . Like the idea of that. I get up for work at silly o clock do need to get clothes ready night before. Currently it's the door handle!

Toomanycats99 · 02/05/2016 21:50

Wigeon. I tend to wear my work skirts twice. By hanging on door after first wear I know when I take them off the door it's the washing basket!

Hassled · 02/05/2016 21:52

We have a chair in the bathroom for "Pending" clothes. It looks shite, but at least it's only one chairfull of shite in one place.

Hassled · 02/05/2016 21:53

Widgeon - because I have the memory of a gerbil and would have no idea if a shirt in my wardrobe had been worn once or twice or not at all. I can't trust myself to retain that information.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 02/05/2016 22:52

And because worn clothes attract moths (especially if worn by a female). Of course, the moths can just as easily land on the clothes hanging on the back of a door, but at least they won't find a whole pile of yoir best cashmere for their grubs to chomp on!
And they won't become aged and potentially smelly theough being stored long-term if they're on view. Mine usually get re-worn within a couple of days.

Shining15 · 02/05/2016 23:55

because worn clothes attract moths (especially if worn by a female
had no idea!

Rojak · 03/05/2016 11:17

If you google Airette, you'll see some folding hooks which you can attach to wardrobes which you can hang clothes hangers on to.

It seems like an American thing but you can buy them on Amazon and it's for airing clothes.

haggisaggis · 03/05/2016 11:28

I have an old Ikea bedside table in the bottom of my wardrobe for this. It has a couple of shelves so it is where I put my "softies" (the clothes I change into after work) and my jeans. My slippers live there too. We got new bedside cabinets last year so this seemed a good use for the old ones and keeps stuff tidied away. dh though continues to use the floor at his side of the bed.

GooodMythicalMorning · 03/05/2016 11:33

My problem is my bedroom is tiny. I just cant fit any more storage in.

lavenderhoney · 03/05/2016 11:35

I don't think its a problem. That's what the chair is for:) very handy.
