Does anyone know what were popular prints/pictures on people's walls in the 1970s? We are buying a house built in the late 60s and furnishing it with a mix of 1960s/70s G Plan/Ercol stuff and some 'retro' but modern pieces. I've even bought my macrame pot holder Grin

We have a massive world map which we'll hang in our living room but am a bit stuck as to what to hang in the dining area - what would have been typical of the period?

One of those pictures made by hammering nails onto a board (usually covered in hessian) with string/cotton sort of wound around the nails ?
I cant link, sorry !
Someone will know what I mean Smile

My Mum used to grow everlasting flowers in the garden, pick and dry them and make pictures out of them. All shades of brown.

Are you sure you want to go that authentic? Grin

Oh I do know what you mean! Bloody great idea, thanks. Like this?

Any others?

Like this owl too.

And dried flowers... might draw the line at certain levels of authenticity Wink

I remember seeing lots of these pictures around. I think they were prints from Athena which was poster shop .

Oh and this was a big favourite .

Lucked · 09/03/2014 22:44

We had one of those string art things as well as a sunburst style mirror.

You need an l.s. Lowry matchstick men print on the walls

fridayfreedom · 09/03/2014 22:53

My mums still got the macramé pot holder I made for her in her porch :)

lessonsintightropes · 09/03/2014 22:55

Sunburst mirror, awesome idea - and I've always really liked the Mucha prints, not so sure about tennis bum girl Smile or Lowry.

I love Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy by David Hockney

Slainte · 09/03/2014 23:03

This swan painting was big then.

bootsycollins · 09/03/2014 23:05

Ahh she's lovely lessons. I've got Miss Wong by Tretchikoff in my living room and I love her, she's really calm and serene looking, I always say she's the funky version of the Mona Lisa. I really love 60's and 70's kitsch prints.

Slainte · 09/03/2014 23:05

And Chinese Girl of course.

Lurleene · 09/03/2014 23:07

Wings of Love by Stephen Pearson is pretty iconic.

bootsycollins · 09/03/2014 23:07

I have no idea what's happening in the swan pic but I bet it's got something to do with psychedelic drugs Grin

Lurleene · 09/03/2014 23:07

Bum, massive x-post.

lessonsintightropes · 09/03/2014 23:10

These are brilliant. Thanks everyone! My Pinterest is filling up with lots of great ideas Grin

those mawkish peirot pics, though that may be early 80s Grin

my sister had a 'your country needs you' sign in the bedroom in the 70s

osmond pics Grin

southeastastra · 09/03/2014 23:13

i think you could get wings of love off the freemans catalogue for 1.99 per month for 24 months Grin

Slainte · 09/03/2014 23:14

And Pierrot for kid's bedrooms.

lessonsintightropes · 10/03/2014 00:40

It's funny - I really didn't like the Pierrot at the time, and it's still definitely not my taste, but my feelings about it have mellowed a lot over time. Still not having one of the creepy things in the house though Grin
