I would recommend the http://www.citadines.com/ Citadines apartments, Toison D'Or or Ste Catherine (more central). You get 2/3 rooms and a kitchenette then. We stayed there a couple of times when visiting before we moved here. And not too expensive.

Or there is Novotel in the City centre, not far from the Grand Place. 2 dcs might be the max in a room though.

If you are prepared to fill your luggage with English food stuffs, you can come and stay with me!

link again

Thanks! Will look that one up, sounds cool. My kids love the whole hotel thing so maybe the novotel. Any tips apart from the obvious chocolate museum (which is causing a lot of excitement) and the little Europe place, can't remember the name

Copied something I wrote on another thread:

I think most places are reasonably child friendly. Dd was 2 when we moved here and we have taken her in lots of cafes and restuarants without incident, even some quite posh ones. Chez Leon (Rue de Bouchers and at Bruparck)is notably child friendly and kids eat free with their parents.

Things to do:

Definitely have a stroll round the Grand Place and go and be underwhelmed by the Mannekin Pis.

The Museum of Natural History has a fab dinosaur collection and lots of little play areas. The Children's Museum in Ixelles is quite good fun too. Stroll in the Bois de la Cambre. Trip on the metro or tram to Brupark to see the Atomium (better to look at from the outside). At Bruparck there is a food village, a multiplex cinema, a pool complex, playground, merrygoround etc, and Mini Europe which has key European sites in miniature.

The Art Museum and Magritte museum are good, if you like that sort of thing. There is the Parc de Bruxelles up near there which has another very good playground. Comic Strip museum too.

You can also get the 44 tram out through the forest to Tervuren and the African Museum (full of stuffed dead things - so not to everyone's taste - dd loves it!) but the park that surrounds it is lovely and there is a new cafe by the lake.

Oooohhhh, can I ask if it's do-able with a 5 month old? Dh and I are looking for long weekend ideas. I used to live there but was a party-hungry-early 20s-stagiere at the time and have no idea whether cafes/restaurants/bars are baby friendly.
Love, love, loved the place though. Always a place in my heart for dear old Brux.
[Sigh emotion]

Well people have babies here too . I think it is generally more child friendly than the UK, and smoking is now banned in all places that serve food. We have always taken dd everywhere and never had a problem. The Meridien/Sofitel/Amigo hotels advertise their family Sunday brunch and the Novotel is always family friendly.

As I recall from my baby days, they are highly transportable at that age and at least don't complain of being bored . Go for it. But for long weekend I would go for Prague/Barcelona everytime......

Thanks Portifino. Was thinking of Eurostar as it's so easy to get to/do (when it's working!)

Portofino · 07/03/2010 22:42

It's certainly easy to get about, even with a pushchair, unlike paris say.

sounds great, eurostar and novotel I reckon.
thanks for the advice
