All I can tell you about Rhyl is that I was conceived there in a caravan in the pouring rain in March. Not much help really.

My Dad spent the week teaching my Mam the finer points of strip poker. I don't know if he succeeded (they were on their honeymoon).

dyzzidi · 22/06/2005 13:29

been to the sun centre and the Nova centre which is mentioned on you link many times but was about 3 years ago now.

I thought both were good fun and good value. temperatures were Ok I can't remember the changing rooms which mean they must not have been awful!

Have fun in Rhyl

RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 13:30

Thanks Pixiefish

Do they have changing rooms that I can go into with DS {he is 10}

Or do I have to send him into the mens and me into womens

ie are there some like at centre Parcs that are just cubicles IYSWIM

RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 13:32

dyzzidi Cheers thanks

Pixiefish · 22/06/2005 13:37

Not being funny RTKMummy but just take him in with you anyway. I'm sure there are cubes of some sort there. Don't send him into the men's on his own- have heard things but it could be scaremongering

pindy · 22/06/2005 13:39

Went there last half term - the pool place was fantastic - you all have to pay to go in - no reduced rates for spectators though.

Beach - well - say no more..........

RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 13:45

Thanks guys

Pixie that is what I worried about really

Cos I will be on my own with him

What do I do about slides etc do I let him go to the top alone and wait at the bottom or do I go to the top and him come down alone

I hate them so won't go on them myself

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 13:47

Can you elaborate the details so I can be aware of pitfalls etc.

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 22/06/2005 18:30

Slides etc- he should be ok. It's only the changing rooms that worry me. Think Pindy means that the beaches in Rhyl are a bit cr@@.

Anglesey has some gorgeous beaches if you're staying a while over Rhyl way and it's not that far.

RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 18:34

staying near st aslaph

yes if good weather could go to beach @ Anglesey

Glad slides will be ok, Yes will keep him with me in changing rooms

Thank you for brill tips

ah, all the happy holidays I had in rhyl at my aunty's house. the sun centre was brand new when I first went, almost 30 years ago, so it was all clean and sparkly and fab.

Unfortunately, 30 years later, married to a middle class man whose snob gland gets set off whenever rhyl ever gets mentioned, I haven't been since then... it looked nice from the outside when I was there last easter...

rhyl itself is not all that (even though I still love it and have very fond memories of the past 3 years in my mum's caravan there) but there are plenty of wonderful places within easy driving distance from the sun centre.

enjoy!

RTKangaMummy · 22/06/2005 18:43

OOOOH how glad I am that I didn't choose Rhyl to stay in

I had heard of the sun centre from a friend

Where would you take a 10 year old for the day?

Is there somewhere better?

OP posts:
oatcake · 22/06/2005 18:48

Well, you've got the castles like conwy and caernarfon, or the snowdonia zoo, or Aires Park (spelling is off the mark but I think it's pronounced air-ees), then there's snowdonia itself and the train ride up or down snowdonia, funfairs galore in rhyl and towyn which is a lovely walk along the sea wall. There's also a great train ride on a narrow guage rail way at caernarfon...

I'm never bored in north wales!

Prestatyn has a good market but I don't suppose a 10 year old would be interested in that...!
