Tate Britain or Modern?

Museum of Childhood is fab but a schlep from the river.

The boat trips on the river are good. How about a Duck Tour? Or HMS Belfast?

southeastastra · 12/05/2009 13:39

tower of london, what age are the children? or are you alone

Miyazaki · 12/05/2009 13:41

Yes, Duck Tour v good.

Imax if weather bad?

mrsruffallo · 12/05/2009 13:41

I would get the river taxi to the Tower of London. I don't think that the museum of childhood is worth travelling to from the south bank if you only have one day.
How old are your children?
You could do The Aquarium or The London Eye too!!

MrsWobble · 12/05/2009 13:44

the museum of london is good and in the barbican so not far. it's also (i think) free entry.

squeaver · 12/05/2009 13:45

Duck tours get very booked up - book well in advance.

Have also heard that Greenwich is good now they've done it up. You could catch a boat down there from Southbank.

stripeypineapple · 12/05/2009 13:46

HMS Belfast on the Thames?

hmsbelfast.iwm.org.uk/

jeee · 12/05/2009 13:46

Museum of Childhood is fantastic, and has always been nearly empty when we've been there (perhaps we scare off the punters?)

Miyazaki · 12/05/2009 13:54

Not in half term surely? Everytime I've been there it's been rammed.

MollieO · 12/05/2009 13:56

London Transport museum Covent Garden although nearer Waterloo than Tate Modern.

jeee · 12/05/2009 13:58

We've been at holiday time, and weekends - and it's only had a few people there, although we haven't been for a couple of years now. Perhaps I've told too many people that it's wonderful and deserted? So is it really crowded now? Damn, it's my DCs favourite museum.

squeaver · 12/05/2009 14:00

Oh yes the Transport Museum's good now.

BernardsCat · 12/05/2009 14:02

im probably alone in this, but i really hated the new london transport museum, seemed crushed together and made me feel dizzy as lots of high walkways etc.

used to be nicer!

southeastastra · 12/05/2009 14:04

oh and those stupid 'get your cards clicked' things bunging up areas

BernardsCat · 12/05/2009 14:05

Here's a list of attractions near Waterloo-

www.allinlondon.co.uk/tube-waterloo-todo.php

I can recommend the Imperial War Museum and can definitely not recommend the Florence Nightingale one. We went last year when DD was doing a project on the Crimean war and it wasn't good and it was expensive.

BernardsCat · 12/05/2009 14:11

oh god i think i am in love with you

i am rather au fait with IMP (many a school visit in years past!) but may rethink that for a trip with just one kid so i can explain.

ed's diner There's one at near Piccadilly Circus - not too far from CG. Hot dogs, burgers, juke boxes, high stools etc

Or hell on earth Rainforest Cafe isn't too far from there

hatwoman · 12/05/2009 14:11

HMS Belfast is good. I challenge you not to well up when you read the letters from some 16 year old lad...
