holiday ideas please

I know we had single parent holiday ideas, but I need ideas for a holiday with a baby.

ds is 11 months and I need to get away somewhere, he doesn't have a passport yet so would have to be in the UK. I have a very lovely cath kidston tent but not too sure if I want to go camping, might be a bit of a hassle with no car and no one to keep me company in the evenings. Can't really leave ds sleeping in the tent while I go off to the pub!

so what other options are there? Needs to be easy to get to by train and cheap and near a beach would be good.

I would rather have a 'grown-up' holiday iykwim. Not too bothered about getting out in the evening as long as there is plenty to do during the day, cafes, bars, shops, museums and if not a beach then a park to let ds get some playtime.

how old was your dd when you went on holiday?

What about a city then - Brighton, or Oxford, or Edinburgh. Treat yourself to a city centre hotel for a few nights. And maybe you could persuade some MNers to babysit ...

Edinburgh would be perfect, but I live here so not much of a holiday! Oxford might be good, is that anywhere near Henley? Going to be in Henley for the regatta so could take a detour on my way home.

would it be really stupid to stay in a hotel in Edinburgh when my house is just up the road? maybe it would feel like a holiday but I wouldn't have to sit on a train for a day. Am I weird or is that a good idea?

I'm seriously thinking of booking myself a weekend after my exams are finished. Would be nice to get away from the mess and let someone else cook for me for a couple of days. And ds would love it, somewhere new and exciting.

I'm not sure though, it's a lot of money just to visit all the places I can visit from home. But they do have babysitting so I could go out. and the money I would save by not travelling anywhere could be spent on food and drink and shopping.

oh I don't know! If I go somewhere else I will have to stay in a cheap hotel and wont have any spending money. but if I stay here. well, it's not exactly an exciting holiday

beansmum..as someone who has spent years alone with a baby, I don't think that being somewhere alone would class as a holiday. in fact, would go so far as to say that you are barking to consider it.
Can you hook up with another adult, preferably with a small child too.
Or....spend the money on doing some nice things alone, such as a day at a spa, having lunch,visiting a museum or so on. Despite being short, it could recharge your batteries just as effectively.

That's what Essbee & Yorkie did, they met up here with the kids and went out during the day and drank the bar dry at night

actually, I am mad! Spending £500 on 2 nights in a hotel 30mins from my house! bad idea. Don't know anyone with a small baby though, and hate doing things without bean so will probably just end up staying at home. I suppose I can still go out during the day and spend £500 on bills instead.

I find the idea of holidaying without my children horrid, although can just about manage one night (not with my 10 month old yet though. Too soon!)

However, a few hours to myself are a real treat.
My dh bought me a day at a really smart spa a few weeks ago. 8 hours of full on pampering as well as a great lunch and a chance to read the papers in peace were well worth the £120 it cost.

I don't think I would really enjoy a spa, but maybe lunch in a posh restaurant and then a fancy new haircut would be fun. But I would have to find a babysitter (and someone to go to lunch with)

Aren't you a student? There must be lots of people who would like a good lunch!
I don't mind doing stuff alone actually!! Have just bought tickets to an Al Green concert (I just luuurve him!!!) and as dh will be abroad, I am going to go on my own and then overnight alone in a nice hotel while my parents have the children. Peace!!! Heaven!!
Who minds babybean in the day? Uni creche? Would anyone there babysit for you? Seem to recall that things were difficult with your mother???

This is going to turn into an 'I'm so miserable' thread if I'm not careful!

I just want a proper holiday and a day out without bean doesn't really seem like a holiday to me. But just the two of us in a hotel wouldn't be much fun and I have no one to take on holiday, also hardly anyone I know would want to go out for lunch so I'm feeling sorry for myself.

ignore this thread, will save having a holiday for when ds is older and we can do fun things like skiing and sailing.
