hello everyone

the title says it all really! i would be grateful for ideas for a long w/e for myself and the kids and possibly a friend with child(ren) in June. i would like to be walking distance from a sandy beach and maximum 3hrs travel time from London. open mind as to hotel or self catering - but if hotel must have interconnecting rooms and babysitting.

thanks in advance

Sandyballs are you advertising your business

sandyballs · 18/04/2005 10:22

I wish it was!!

bossykate · 18/04/2005 13:03

thank you very much for these suggestions.

i think i will concentrate on dorset and hampshire. iow seems too far somehow - just gut feel, i've never been and we have visited whitstable and southwold relatively recently.

the place at camber sands sounds really nice, but i've looked at it before and know they don't have a set up where you can get separate sleeping space for the kids.

sandy balls

I can vouch for it cod, and we will be there again this summer if you want to visit it and us When we were there last year the Red Arrows were doing their display and we all sat on the terrace in the sun drinking wine while we watched. Ah. (My niece: "But what are they for???" Good question really ).

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:08

ooh ooh we go to Lyme A LOT lets do a meet up

tamum · 18/04/2005 16:10

Ooh, Enid, do let's! It's quite close to you, isn't it? We could have a MN day on the beach, or you could all join us on the terrace for drinks and the Red Arrows. How civilised is that???

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:12

omg even dh might come if the red arrows are offered

Then I can go to my 2 fave shops, the Blue Lias Gallery and the 'pink shop and cafe' over the road.

tamum · 18/04/2005 16:18

I really like the shops in Lyme, pathetcially enough. The Blue Lias gallery is lovely, isn't it? I like the cafe next to it, and the one across the street (the yellow one, Cafe Sol). The little shop by the steps down to the beach at that end, by the little car park, is nice too (handbags, jewellery, that kind of stuff).

We'll be there from July 22nd for two weeks, which I think covers Lifeboat week (hence the Red Arrows). Shall we try and organise something???

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:23

yes deffo, we are away from July 28th so lets try Monday 25th?

Cafe Sol is always closed when we go (usually out of season though)

The other place that looks nice is the little restaurant in the waterwheel museum have you been there?

WideWebWitch · 18/04/2005 16:25

Can I be a possible too if you do meet up? Ha ha Tamum at 'what are they for?' I've seen the red arrows at Dartmouth Regatta and the displays were impressive I have to say. I liked the huge loop de loop love hearts in the sky

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:30

hurrah lets get beety and cod too and MI

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:31

just realised how horribly cliquey that sounded I would love ANYONE who wanted to come to come

bossykate · 18/04/2005 16:33

oi, start yer own thread!

you lot will be detained under indefinite house arrest for blatant hi-jacking!

tamum · 18/04/2005 16:34

Ooh yes of course www, that would be fab

25th sounds good to me. I think the Red Arrows will be later in the week but I'm sure we can find something else to do. Goody, I'm looking forward to it already. Bossykate, get your booking in now and you too can spend your long weekend on a MN meet-up

The place at the watermill is lovely actually- we had a really good meal there in the courtyard last year watching the great and the good of Lyme Regis (well, John Fowles) arrive for a private view in the art gallery. Ds was in stitches at how small the Mayor's car was, he was expecting him to have at least a limo.

tamum · 18/04/2005 16:35

Sorry bossykate, it took me so long to write that post I missed yours, but it had occurred to me that we were hijacking a tad

Enid · 18/04/2005 16:39

sorry bk, I can't stay away from this thread and keep hijacking it, sorry....

WideWebWitch · 18/04/2005 16:48

Sorry bk, this was a particularly bad hijack wasn't it? Please accept my humblest apologies and a grovelly link to another nice looking B&B

True wizzysmum but its the best we've got around these parts...

Cam · 18/04/2005 21:02

so, are you local then wizzy?

wizzysmum · 18/04/2005 23:21

Currently abroad but back in sunny SE at end of May. Hey, at least it's better than our nearest seaside - the children's paradise of Dymchurch. All joking aside, we're lucky to live so close to the sea and we've had lots of fantastic sunny afternoons on the beach so I know I'm naughty to knock them! Maybe we should make it a beach party??!!
