I can't be doing with theme parks and whathave you.I want peace and walking and swimming and no roughing it.

chester? southport?
what sort of thing are you into? we love chester on the grounds that it has nice city walls to walk round, good shopping centre, couple of swimming pools (decent size) near the city centre and some roman stuff. Oh, and the river to go walking along or cruising on for not-too-expensive fees . Nice places to eat too - the full range.

Ribby Hall ??

moondog · 27/02/2009 20:52

I'm about 90 mins. from Chester, know it well.I don't like shopping or town centres alone with kids.
Will google Ribby Hall.

Llangollen? North Wales, lovely little town, has a posh hotel (so my parents say, I've not stayed there) but don't know what it's called. Has a steam railway and a horse drawn canal boat thingie. Obv plus usual walks in the Welsh countryside.

do you go to Delamere too? Grizedale is lovely if you like forest places, with lots of Beatrix Potter stuff on the doorstep, but is that too far?

TotalChaos · 27/02/2009 21:00

Lake District. A few years ago we stayed in a very nice cottage near Penrith. Trying to remember the name of the village....

AccidentalMum · 27/02/2009 21:00

Edale?

AttillaTheHan · 27/02/2009 21:04

Castleton? Lots of caverns to godown, lots of walks, good pubs, castle to explore. Lacking a swimming pool but there is one a few miles away.

Buxton?

Clitheroe?

moondog · 27/02/2009 21:55

Mutt,I will be coming from Llandudno direction and have done all that millions of times.
I live in lovely Snowdonia but at home so easy to get bogged down by domestic issues.Just fancy being looked after so I can concentrate on having fun with my kids.

I was googling Ribby Hall (thanks) and requested a brochure.Looks nice. Was thinking of next w/end as no school on Friday (TT).

How about CenterParcs???

Aye. Probably.
I've had a look at website.
Faux volcanic rock Aztec statue water feature made me feel...unesay.

I'll probably end up staying home.

It's quite far though isn't it??
I just want to stay in...well a house like mine really,in a quiet rural place but with someone else to look after me.

Maybe I just need a housekeeper?

Come to the Wirral and I will look after you...

Am watching this thread with interest now for suggestions of places to visit in the future.

moondog · 27/02/2009 23:10

Bless you!
Seriously thoguh, you'll get nowhere better than North Wales for a good place to mess about with your kids.

Haven would probably be your idea of hell too wouldn't it The one at Hafan Y Mor has a nice setting - beach/woods, and a very nice swimming pool. You would just have to completely avoid all the entertainment areas
