LOL. I was going to come on here and defend hampshire .

naswm · 28/01/2009 22:26

I love Hampshire. I have always wanted to live there. Thus why I want a holiday there!

I cannot believe I made such a bad typo

Bet I wont get any advice now!

I was coming to say we're not that bad either..... but since you've apologised,

loads of nice walks in the forest
Lyndhurst - nice little museum and typical nice little town shops
Furzey Gardens near Lyndhurst is just lovely - has trails and things for the little ones to find and a great play bit
Moors Valley - great day out
Paultons Park - theme park place but for younger children. Bit pricey but good value for a whole day out

and if all that fails to excite, we have IKEA opening in Southampton and we are all very excited about that

Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:32

forgot - Marwell Zoo - very good

whoops · 28/01/2009 22:35

Tommy how can you be excited by Ikea? It's going to be hell!!
Intech in Winchester is supposed to be good too (I've not been there yet though)

naswm · 28/01/2009 22:37

lol at Ikea in Southampton!!!

Thanks for ideas - it is accomodation I am looking for at this stage - any advice?

OP posts:
Amapoleon · 28/01/2009 22:41

Sorry no advice but you really made me laugh.

Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:41

yes - intech is good for a rainy day

can't help with accommodation because obviously I live here!!

(where do you live naswm? fancy a house swap )

whoops - it will be great to be able to just walk down to Ikea if I want something rather than the whole day trip/hire a van type thing that we have to do currently. Probably will be hell for the first few weeks or so though

whoops · 28/01/2009 22:43

if you want new forest - sandy balls caravan park is supposed to be good
there are a few nice campsites around there too

whoops · 28/01/2009 22:44

Yes Tommy that is true at walking to it although I could if I really thought about it!!
Not sure about my travel to work though am going to have to rethink my route

Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:45

we use to go here for holidays - not very adventurous were we? Have no idea what it is like now but maybe worth looking at?

and here if you could cope with the name... Again - don't know what they are like now but worth a look

Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:46

whoops - are you the talkingtots person?

whoops · 28/01/2009 22:47

no what is talkingtots?

Spidermama · 28/01/2009 22:48

Sandy Balls in the New Forest is pretty good but I would go self catering (as it's all burgers and stuff otherwise). They have portocabins. Just make sure you leave the holiday camp and go into the forest you love.

Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:50

maybe I got that wrong then whoops - there is a local MNetter who does something like that. Not sure what it is but keep seeing adverts for it.

naswm · 28/01/2009 22:53

I have driven past Sandy Ball many times, but never been there. Never stay in a caravan with the DC either... (Last time I stayed in a caravan it was 1986 and I was with 5 friends and it was a very different event!)

How much private space do you get with a caravan park? My mental image is of the caravans all lined up in rows... NO WAY I could go camping I need a flushing loo!

Sorry for the 'shit' typo - but glad I made you laugh

OP posts:
Tommy · 28/01/2009 22:58

IME caravan parks are all lined up in rows but your front door opens onto the back of your neighbour's caravan so you don't have to talk to them or anything

depends on the weather of course - we went to a caravan park last summer and I sat outside with my glass of wine once in the evening - the rest of time I was huddled inside with my fleece

naswm · 28/01/2009 23:01

oh yes of course, the weather... A week inside a caravan with the DC...

But if it is nice wesather, the thoght of sitting outside with a glass of wine when they have gone to bed is very appealing

I like my own privacy though, but think perhaps I will need to compromise on this somewhat.

Any other ideas? any other self catering ideas?

Tommy · 28/01/2009 23:04

can't really help anymore than the 2 I linked to. Maybe have a look in the archives? I'm pretty sure I've seen similar threads in the past (although not ones that made me laugh so much )

Anyway - off to bed now. Good luck!

naswm · 28/01/2009 23:06

thansk Tommy - I will do a proper search at a more reasonable hour. Thanks for your ideas! And glad I made you smile

If they can stand shopping, gunwharf quay in portsmouth is brill - lots of outlet type places and plenty of spots to eat, boats to look at etc. You can go up the Spinnaker Tower, and the place has the most amazing hi-tech carpark

naswm · 28/01/2009 23:16

final bump before I go to bed...

DumbledoresGirl · 29/01/2009 09:00

Naswm! Why did you not ask me? Are you there a full week? If it does not clash with whatever my MIL is planning for her 70th, I could arrange to meet you at the weekend (my children will still be at school during the week )
