Luggage on ryanair

mummynumnum · 21/07/2008 08:44

I have just booked three seats on ryanair for dh, dd-2 and I on ryanair. Does she get a 10kg carry on luggage allowance like dh and I do?

If she is 2 already, then yes she does.

We had a ridiculous situation last summer, as DS turned 2 whilst we were away. We decided to pay for him a seat on the journey out so that we would have his baggage allowance, but unbelievably we weren't allowed to as he hadn't turned 2!! So we had no allowance for him flying out, but one coming back!

Must admit, has put me off Ryanair to be honest.

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:06

Wasnt going to take a buggy as want to do online booking thing, but just had thought that may have to walk v tired 2yr old round airport. Was thinking about changing booking to check buggy in, but once I have done this at the airport will be buggyless, so is it really worth taking one at all-How do people usually deal with this dilemma?

Ryanair let you take buggy to gate and then they put it in the hold.

sophiewd · 23/07/2008 21:08

It is not part of your luggare allownace wither so you don't pay for it to gon on the plane.

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:13

So is it worth me changing my booking to say we will have an item of infant luggage?

OP posts:
sophiewd · 23/07/2008 21:17

I have never booked our buggy on in advance, last flew with them last year so don't know if this has changed.

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:21

Sophiewd-You seem to know more than me.

Will dd-2-get a baggage allowance

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:32

I think from what I can see online she can have baggage as over 2, so just unsure as to whether should have booked buggy on as an additional item or whether they will let that on free as well.

DD only just 2 so this year will be the first time she gets and allowance, would still not include buggy, I would just take it along.

WendyWeber · 23/07/2008 21:37

You may have to pay for the buggy when the child is over 2 (ie no longer an "infant").

Ryanair will screw every last penny they can out of you

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:40

Boo humbug-Think will have to call tomorrow. My dh said he is just going to dump our old second hand one in a bin. Fine in principle but worried might trigger a security alert!

And worth paying for priority boarding

ExterminAitch · 23/07/2008 21:44

we just travelled with ryanair, 15kg allowance and dd (over 2) was allowed the buggy no problem. you just leave it with the ground crew when you embark, it was fine. we did book priority seating so that dh could race onto the plane to bag seats and dd and i could arse around until the last minute in the shops and she wouldn't get bored so quickly. something to consider.

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 21:57

Was that cabin luggage or checked in luggage. Did she have a bag as well?

OP posts:
ExterminAitch · 23/07/2008 22:14

oh yes, she had a bag. or at least i had two. one that was filled with her crap, to be fair. books, comics, dvd player. they weren't bad at all, i thought. i'd had the fear of god put into me though, by posting here.

ExterminAitch · 23/07/2008 22:16

so, 15 kg checked-in, 10kg hand plus buggy, although we were nowhere near the kg limits. but we had paid for a ticket. she's 2,5.

WendyWeber · 23/07/2008 22:31

According to moneysavingmartin (or a forum on there) whether you get charged for the buggy or not is down to the individual check-in person - which is crap but not something you can argue about at the time.

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 22:34

sue it will be fine. going to take hand luggage for all of us and take buggy and hope will all be ok.

Sort of wish stuck to the holiday in uk in a car lark!

sophiewd · 23/07/2008 22:35

mummynumnum · 23/07/2008 22:45

I think Ryanair make a charge for buggies if the child is over 2.

"There is no checked/hand baggage allowance for infants. However, one fully collapsible pushchair per child may be carried free of charge. Additional infant equipment such as car/booster seats and travel cots may be carried in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance. Infant equipment (car/booster seats and travel cots) booked online is charged at the rate of £8/?10 per item/per one way flight or at the airport or through a Ryanair call centre, the standard rate of £16/?20 per item/per one way flight will apply."

We are flying with them on Friday. I am 24 weeks pg and have quite a big bump. Thought about going for their priority boarding but then didn't go for it in the end as it just means you are first on the bus from the terminal to the plane... and LAST off! Better to be last on the bus and FIRST off the bus at the plane!

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 00:06

don't know if that's true about the bus, actually. i suppose it must depend on the airport... whether or not there is a bus, for starters.

i wouldn't bust a gut to do the hand luggage thing unless you really don't need much, cos if you're taking the buggy it will go into the hold and likely come off the carousel at the end anyway tbh. if it's just you and a baby, there is much to be said for traipsing around with a buggy and some bags slung over the handles, rather than trying to drag a small hand luggage case behind you.

Ewe · 24/07/2008 00:10

I am flying Ryanair on Sunday with DD and am taking buggy but also a sling - would a sling work for a two yr old?

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 00:11

no no no, please don't even consider it! if the flight is delayed (as there's every chance it will be) you'll need the buggy...

Ewe · 24/07/2008 00:13

That's a v.good point Aitch, my DD is only 4mo and have no clue how heavy a 2yr old is but I guess it's heavy enough to not want to hold for hours!
