Eurodisney- Where to book for best deal? Hotel reccomendation & eurostar

SugaryBits · 03/07/2008 12:56

We are hoping to go to eurodisney around Sept 9th/10th for 5 nights. I have got some prices from the disney website but was wondering if it would be cheaper to look else where for prices? Also, would it pay to wait and book a bit closer to the time?

Also which hotel would you recommend? I have been looking at the Vienna Dream Castle- it is rated 4 star, the same as the DisneyLand hotel but less than half the price as it is not on site. Has anyone stayed there? Or would we be better at a slightly cheaper hotel on site- not too keen on the look of the Santa Fe or Cheyenne.

Lastly eurostar- is it better to book as a package or separately? The price for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant is around £600 on the disney site- this sounds a lot to me.
TIA for any advice or recommendations

Don't talk to me about the farking tatt It;s unbelievable how in your face it is. The stuff we ended taking home cost about half the price in our local Disney Store. Stay clear of the girls dresses they want about £40 for them.

marymoocow · 03/07/2008 21:32

Oh and we took loads of cereal bars and cartons of drink etc. for lunches and our 3 dc survived until the evening for their dinner.

SugaryBits · 03/07/2008 21:35

Don't think the dresses will be a problem for us, unless DS has something to tell us!

Thanks for the tips yvonne!

dresses were no prob here, I coudn't get dd then 5 off the Captain Hook ship,

AND we met Jack Sparrow lol (nice for mummy)!

Everyone pilfers croissants, rolls etc at breakfast.

At the santa Fe, evening buffet was 15 euro's for an adult, and 8 ish for a child.

I ended up geting mine (you can go up as many times as you like when you have paid at till) then giving dd some of it. cheeky i know but dd eats zilch, and the place was so busy noone would have given a hoot.

Fimbo · 03/07/2008 21:46

Dd has a picture of herself and Jack Sparrow. The one we saw thought he was uber cool.

yvonnek · 03/07/2008 21:47

the half board thing is definately value for money

most but the places where you get the meals for free is a complete pile of piss. but we discovered you can exchange them for monetary value in more restaurants.

the disney nautical hotel (cant remember name) has a fantastic seafood buffet that did great kids alternatives to the fish. i.e pizza or chicken breasts, they let us exchange for all you can eat for 10 euro.

most of the restaurants want about 20 euro average for main course

a macdonalds meal was 13.95 euro to give you an idea of how badly they rip you off.

but you cant let that put you off

also , just outside the hotel santa fe there is a petrol station with a shop.

from here you can get everything you need for a packed lunch. we ended up going here every night and getting our lunch for the next day. used our vouchers for dinner.

but it's too far away from any of the hotels to be honest.

this is one thing i loved about santa fe.

this shop was the only one in the whole resort where you can guy normal grocerier. its just a garage shop, but has everything.

even the essentials which you may be really hunting for . .nappies, tampax, toothbrushes. i had to buy a single nappy at the baby change in the main park it cost me 1 euro. for 1 nappy

piratecat · 03/07/2008 22:01

yes, all hail the garage near the santa fe, we spent time there too!!!

yvonnek · 03/07/2008 22:03

ha ha, it was the highlight of our trip.

stumbling in there every night on our way home to stock up on mid night nibbles and next day lunch.

oooh and the bottles of wine you could buy

lol

it was the only place to buy one

piratecat · 03/07/2008 22:21

yes we were the same, like 'FOOOOOOOOd', food we can BUY at a reasonable price.

Iwonder if it was you who recommended it too me last yr when i was asking about Disney?

yvonnek · 03/07/2008 22:26

nope i'm new to this mumsnet. been great, wish i'd found it earlier. shame about the few people who get a bit aggressive though.

vent your anger somewhere else i say.

WendyWeber · 03/07/2008 22:38

These apartments are 5 mins by metrolink to Disneyland & 35 mins to Paris - no idea what the prices are though, you have to ring to find out (I work at cottages4you but sadly my brain doesn't retain this information, I just remember someone booked this place with me recently )

May or may not be cheaper than the hotels but worth enquiring.

ShrinkingViolet · 03/07/2008 22:48

we went over the May bank holiday - as the DDs are slightly older (6, 10 and 14) we managed with a mahoosive breakfast, extra pain au chocolat wrapped in napkins (take your rucksack to breakfast ) for late morning, plus a cereal bar or sim. each, then ate our main meal around 3.30 just before the park restaurants shut. Thenall we/they needed was another snack around 7.30, then bed, ready for the next morning's 8 am start.
Helpful hint - the rides in Discoveryland whcih open early (Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear laser thing) are much quieter than the Fantasyland rides - DD1 did Space Mountain three times on the trot with no queueing between 8 and 8.30 am one morning.
Colonel Hiathis PIzza Outpost is pretty good value for food (and relatively quiet), as is a mexican place whose name I can't remember (chicken/veg tortillas) fairly near Big Thunder Mountain.

wonderwomanakaeandh · 04/07/2008 07:09

I have printed this thread and the link fimbo did to the other thread so I can take it with me.

DD1 obsessed with princesses especially cinderella and jasmine so am desperatley hoping we'll find them

I thought dresses would be uber expensive to be honest she has most of them apart from sleeping beauty but as her birthday 2 weeks before we go my parents are giving her a small present and money (not that she'll know why shes getting money) so I'll let her buy a dress with her birthday money (and I bet she'll be that kid who then wears it every day we are there )
DH desperate to get dd2 some minnie mouse ears (I have no idea why!)

Cant remember who said about taking rusksack to breakfast but thanks good idea and didnt realsied santa fe did evening meals so that may be handy

SugaryBits · 07/07/2008 11:56

We've booked!!

I booked the hotel direct with Disney as I couldn't find a better deal. I got the hotel for 4 nights, including breakfast and park tickets for £602. I booked tickets with Eurostar which cost £265. I think I got a good deal.

It's going to be so hard not to tell the kids!

eandh · 07/07/2008 11:58

yey well done!!

DH just phoned me at work and said we are going to disney on the 8th arent we, uuuhhh No we are going 22nd (we talked about 8th but hard for me to get time off work and more expensive) and the bloody idiot booked the week of the 8th off, he has got to change it or go 'sick' I cant take them on my own [plonker dh emoticion]

PS its wonderwomanakaeandh just namechanged back to eandh as fed up of typing long name!!

Teuch · 07/07/2008 12:04

we stayed in Val D'Europe which is owned by Disneyland and one stop on the train - as close as the Disney hotels but without the crush on the shuttlebus!

There is a shopping centre with a supermarket and reasonably-priced restaurants. We stayed in the self-catering apartments which are very colourful (I'll find a link...)

Brilliant. I know you are booked, but just in case anyone else is chcking the thread

Hope you have a blast!!

SugaryBits · 07/07/2008 12:05

lol, I have just blocked out the week of the 8th in DHs diary so he can't make the same mistake! I am actually more excited than I thought I would be! I just have to work out how we are going to get to St Pancras for 6am now!

Um..4 nights actually but hey, the kids will love it!

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 07/07/2008 12:33

For future ref, you can book that Pierre & Vacances hotel via French Life & pay with Tesco vouchers - it has to cost at least £500, not sure how many nights that is though (NB you don't have to have £500-worth of vouchers )
