Any particular resort? (asking for a friend).

Kusadasi, I believe. There was a TV documentary about it some years ago. It was every bit as grim as you might imagine.

It's one of the best parts of holidaying abroad for me. The men from places like Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia and Jamaica are so much more attractive than English men, and better in bed too! 😘

You should try it honestly, take your girlies and go have the time of your life. Your husbands don't need to know!

They love the flattery and the ‘charm’ and fool themselves that it is real

A reaction to the way women are just written off in later life , insulted, reviled ‘old bag / hag’ etc

Meanwhile women in their 60s+ have freedom, a lust for life, ready to have a good time after years of work and domestic drudgery

A fit dark eyed Turkish guy making eyes at her… not hard to understand.

so the bit that amazed me is how they believe it ? Now that may say more about how I don’t accept compliments, I’d be asking them to shut up and just get on with the sex aspect.

How sordid. Husbands don’t need to know until you get the clap.

I visited the Gambia in the 1980s. It was mostly Swedish women with the local men then, and it was known locally as “strange love.”

Yes I find Swedish women know what they want and aren't afraid to have society judge them for it. Good for them I say, we only live once and love should have no barriers.

Yet when men got to Thailand and other places and do it they are called sleazy

I've watched documentaries about incels that go to Thailand to find women, it is really quite disgusting and its a shame the authorities don't clamp down on it more. The exploitation there is rampant.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 15/10/2026 11:34

They give them money but it isn't prostitution? Errr yes it is! Women can be dirty perverts as well.

KayFabe · 15/10/2026 11:35

Paying for sex isn't "love" it's exploitation.
Is it weird having sex with someone who's not attracted to you?

I spent some time in West Africa in my 20s, it was certainly an eye opener. The young men were known locally as "bumsters" - bumming a living off women/selling drugs/sunglasses.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 15/10/2026 11:40

Sanky pankies, its grim.
I know because I watch 90 day fiance, not because I've been btw!

I'm not going to go into the explicit racism that you have exhibited by calling African men 'bumsters' but I find the insinuation that these relationships are in any way transactional pretty insulting. Are people not allowed to buy gifts for their partners now without it being seen as prostitution, is that what you are saying?

And that is a minimum bus fare from here.

We saw a group of women in Tunisia, They were each as ugly as a bag of hammers.

And every one of them will bag themselves a better looking man than any of your Nigels back home. Jealousy is such an ugly trait Cholm.

BillieWiper · 15/10/2026 11:45

I thought it was Gambia. But anywhere with willing/desperate enough participants it must happen.

It's grim but women have been having 'holiday romances' with waiters/local young blokes and the like for decades.

I don't know why it's so shocking now all of a sudden. It's not pleasant and I don't agree with transactional sex. But it's hardly new.

To me men are physically stronger and the act of sex requires at least a certain level of physical willingness. Whereas if a man grabbed a young woman and raped her she probably couldn't fight him off.

Valerie isn't launching herself at young waiter Ercan and physically forcing him into sex. So it's not akin to sex work performed by women in poverty. Which can go hand in hand with trafficking and violence.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/10/2026 11:47

I watched a documentary on this awhile ago - it was a mix of women, all who were after an ego boost and had in my opinion ‘issues’ - it was actually all rather sad -

Secretseverywhere · 15/10/2026 11:47

I think it’s really exploitative like blokes heading off to Thailand back in the day (I think they’ve cracked down on sex tourism now 🤞)

I can’t imagine anything less of a turn on than a bloke who is willling to have sex with me in exchange for the contents of my wallet.

I agree and I already live in Devon!

Bringemout · 15/10/2026 11:50

It’s interesting that the women seem to convince themselves that the men genuinely find them sexually appealing. To be blunt not many young people find men and women in their 50’s and 60’s shagable. I think theres a big dollop of self delusion here, most women I know would feel extreme self loathing at the idea that the person having sex with them doesn’t actually want to.

If someone will only have sex with you in exchange for “presents” you have your answer. I think it’s exploitation full stop. I do think on average men care more about whether they want to shag you than if you want to shag them so women need the “boyfriend” experience to be able to actually do it, otherwise you’d see a lot more male street prostitution directed at women in the uk.

I do think it’s not as clear who’s exploiting who, some of these women will think they are in genuine relationships with a poor young man and they are just “helping” him. I’m not sure if they allow themselves to make the direct link between payment and sex and the men they see will be full of pretty words.

Pieceofpurplesky · 15/10/2026 11:51

I remember being shocked in The Gambia at the amount of single women who came over for a relationship with the men there. The men must have kept a really strict diary of what woman when! It served a purpose for both of them I guess.

I think for the same reason that some men go to Thailand on their own. They get attention/sex and the men or women get money and someone who will take them to nice places or buy them things.
I used to have a male friend who moved to Thailand. He said he knew he was unattractive, but out there he got lots of attention. Didn’t matter to him that his girlfriends were in it for the money

Or that they were very likely underage or even children?
