Caribbean? Worth visiting or boring and tacky?

Planning a trip with family or either February half term or Easter holidays and really want to go somewhere properly hot and exotic and relax, swim, see wildlife etc. I'm a very nervous flier but accept I'm going to need to travel at least 8/9 hours for proper heat. My shortlist is currently Barbados or St Lucia but not sure if there's that much to do. Other options would be Mexico or Thailand (DH ie less keen and both require a longer flight which isn't ideal).

Where would you say is the best place to stay in Barbados? West coast or south coast?

I have already answered that, as have other PP. What more do you want to know?!

Boring and tacky (excluding St Barths) literally only amazing thing is the colour of the sea. There are of course some amazing places but once you get out of there it’s usually poverty on the rest of the Island.

You mean just like the UK except the beaches in the UK are brown? 😂

I’ve been to the Caribbean many times and have loved everywhere I’ve been:

Jamaica - lots to do. You generally need to be accompanied whilst outside of your resort for trips etc
Cuba - absolutely beautiful and Havana was amazing. We stayed in Cayo Coco. I felt safe walking around Havana.
Dominican Republic - have been four times (including my honeymoon) lots to do. More reasonably priced. Would also recommended doing guided trips. Shortest flight from the UK
Barbados - only went for a week. Felt safe. Would like to go back.
Grenada - beautiful. More chilled/low key.
Mexico - lots to do. Have been three times. Would suggest staying in Cancun in a hotel “on the strip”. Safe to walk around, shop and get public transport.

Next on my list is Antigua, Aruba and St Lucia.

It's worth knowing that if you visit Cuba, you are no longer eligible for an ESTA and have to apply for a full visa if you want to visit the USA.

You’re really very abrasive OP.
