Venice for a large group holiday

We are (rather last minute) planning a multi generational trip to Venice in October half term. Lots of kids between 0 and 18, parents, grandparents, that sort of thing. About 12 of us in total.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay? Probably four nights. Preferably self catering. Happy with one big villa or a group of apartments. Because of the combination of ages and relationships we need a good range of different sleeping arrangements (I.e. a mix of double and single beds)!

We want to stay actually in Venice, not on the mainland. I totally appreciate this narrows the field and ups the cost.

Has anyone got any good recommendations? £3-4k budget.

What’s the grandparents mobility like?

One fit as a fiddle. The other not so much but will be happy letting the energetic ones get on with it.

Have you been to Venice before?
a huge family group covering babies, toddlers, children, teens and grandparents…. Well, this wouldn’t be my first choice!

Are you meaning can't walk far due to energy or not far as walking is poor?

It's cobbles everywhere, buildings built before disabled access although you may find lifts, getting on and off boats and walking over bridges to go anywhere

Yes I have, as have all the adults. All of the kids are 11+ apart from one baby. We are perhaps an eccentric family but this is our idea of fun!!

Ok! How Many people in total?

It’s horrible with a pushchair too.

Check AirBnB or Booking.com for apartments in San Polo or Dorsoduro - both lovely neighbourhoods within walking distance to most things.

Yes I have been before, as have the grandparents. We know what they are getting in Venice.

Baby is happy in a sling. Baby's mum fully on board with this!

Have done this, there are some possibilities. I thought I would ask for recommendations on here too.

Are you sure Florence with a trip into Pisa wouldn’t be easier with your group?

Or just about anywhere else!

Crumbylentil · 20/08/2026 16:51

I’d do valencia with a big family group.

Theonethatmakesmelaugh · 20/08/2026 16:53

Blimey I did not realise this would be so controversial. Venice is where we want to go. We all know what that entails as we have been before, some of us more than once. Most of us have been to Florence and other cities in Tuscany and they are very lovely but they are not where we want to go this time.

We did this but stayed in a hotel on the lido and boated in

geoger · 20/08/2026 16:54

How many apartments will you need?
Are you ok to be in separate buildings but close by each other?

Plexie · 20/08/2026 16:56

Ignore the naysayers! Venice is amazing and you've all been before so you have realistic expectations.

I can't recommend anywhere specific but if you're arriving into the train station or bus station I would probably try to stay somewhere within walking distance, to make transferring to/from your accommodation easier.

I think it would be better if they're in the same building, unless they're really close. As to how many, that depends how big they are/how they're arranged. We can mix and match the families to some extent so don't need one per family, if you see what I mean.

I stayed outside and took public transport in, one day (very full) was plenty plus went to an island another day.

How many nights?

Crumbylentil · 20/08/2026 17:02
