Venice for a large group holiday

We are (rather last minute) planning a multi generational trip to Venice in October half term. Lots of kids between 0 and 18, parents, grandparents, that sort of thing. About 12 of us in total.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay? Probably four nights. Preferably self catering. Happy with one big villa or a group of apartments. Because of the combination of ages and relationships we need a good range of different sleeping arrangements (I.e. a mix of double and single beds)!

We want to stay actually in Venice, not on the mainland. I totally appreciate this narrows the field and ups the cost.

Has anyone got any good recommendations? £3-4k budget.

Sorry can’t add link

Is this somewhere you have stayed/can recommend? I have identified lots of places on Booking.com already. I just came here to see if anyone has any personal recommendations.

Yep, there are places in this budget on booking.com. And we don't need anything fancy.

Haven’t stayed here…..but have always booked apartments in Venice thru Booking.com. We’ve only ever needed accommodation for max 6 people

Blimey I did not realise this would be so controversial. Venice is where we want to go. We all know what that entails as we have been before, some of us more than once. Most of us have been to Florence and other cities in Tuscany and they are very lovely but they are not where we want to go this time.

I know! It never fails to amaze me, people posting a very specific and clear question and posters going, 'Oooh, I wouldn't do that' and 'Are you sure you wouldn't rather do this (totally different) thing instead?'.
I've no suggestions, I'm afraid; only been to Venice with my DP and stayed in a hotel. I hope you find somewhere nice and have a great time. It sounds like a fun trip Smile

Oh the irony of this post 😆

Really? ConfusedI've just seen that you said she should go to Spain instead. I can't get my head around the thinking here.

It’s the fact you join the thread and your response to the “very specific and clear question” is not to answer it!

So we did the same!

I don't see how that's comparable. I came on to agree with the OP that some of the responses are weird – the ones that go, 'Rather than Venice why not go to Pisa/Florence/a totally different country?'
and to tell her what fun I think her trip sounds.
Perhaps I'm missing something.

I was also going to suggest staying in Venice Lido. Probably easier to entertain very small children there but equally easy to take a vaparetto to St Marks etc.

If any of the older people going have mobility issues you'll need to plan walking routes carefully due to all the steps and bridges. But Zattere is lovely to walk along and there are ramps as well as steps on the bridges there.

I acknowledged in my post that I could not answer the question.
My post was to agree with the OP about how surprised she was that it was controversial to want to go to Venice in her circumstances.

As for 'So we did the same!', I guess you mean you and others answered the OP's question; well, yes, technically you did, but, as I've said (as has the OP), she is not interested in answers along the lines of 'go to a different city/country instead' as she and her group all know they want to go to Venice, so those answers aren't at all useful and are really quite bizarre.

Yes, that's what I said...

GlomOfNit · 20/08/2026 18:54

Sorry OP, no specific recs (the only place I stayed at all recently was a single bedroom in someone's flat and it was bloody gorgeous, not least because I had NO family with me whatsoever 😂) but I really hope you find somewhere that makes it work for all of you. Not having stayed on the Lido I can't recommend it personally but it might work for your larger group as it's only a fairly short vaparetto trip from the main islands and I bet it has larger properties, but it also has cars, which are sort of not the Point of Venice.

I thought it was pp including food & drink !

I’d recommend Ca’ Capellis in Canareggio. They have apartments and B&B rooms in a beautiful 14th Century building. Less than a 10 minute walk to St Marks Square, 5 minute walk to the water bus to the airport. Not sure about cost for October half term but we found it very reasonably priced.

Thanks! Good recommendation but unfortunately no availability.

Have you looked at Treviso? The train is frequent and cheap.
It's about 20 mins out of Venice, a mini Venice with a canal (you can also fly there from Luton directly).
We stayed in an AirbnB there because we needed 5 double rooms. There's more options for family dining and it's the home of tiramisu!

keepingsanity · 20/08/2026 22:24

Another suggestion for the lido - beaches (if weather good) and vaparetto. It’s a lovely spot and quiet. Would also consider staying outside and getting train in.

MrsHeeler · 20/08/2026 23:02

I don’t know about specific airbnbs but I stayed in St. Elena in Venice. We were worried as we thought it may be too far out but the little play park there was a welcome break from all the sightseeing for the kids and it wasn’t too far from good restaurants. We did purchase a vaporetto pass.
