Heat in October half term

Can I get some recommendations on where to go in October half term please?

I’m looking for heat, not just in the day but also in the evening, as a highlight of a holiday is sitting outside in the evenings for dinner and after the kids have gone to bed, and not needing a jumper - so for me it needs to be at least 21 at night.

I’ve considered:
Cyprus - been, not warm enough at night
Turkey - same
Sri Lanka - not been, apparently rainy and thunderstorms in October?
Thailand - is this too far to travel?

Where else could we go?

.... although I haven't checked current middle east situation.
Also Morocco, Tunisia, Gambia

Caribbean? You’d catch the tail end of hurricane season, but should be ok further into October as it tends to be late August/September. A balmy 23-26 at night according to AI

its rainy season in Thailand until end of November. Would recommend going in December/January. Such an amazing place for families

Oman and Qatar have lovely hotels if you don’t want to do anything too adventurous during the days. Great for pools, food and drink. All very back to normal at the moment and there are some good hotel deals to be had.

Dubai

Aruba has hot weather all year round

mugglewump · 15/08/2026 11:19

Red Sea; Egypt or Jordan will be hot. Or the Carabbean - anywhere!

Barbados. Some rain during the day but lovely and humid/balmy evenings. Perfect for eating out.

I think somewhere in the Middle East or North Africa will be your best chances of heat into the evening without rain. Europe is not as likely to stay hot into the evening and Asia will probably have rain.

Tenerife or any of the other Canary Islands. We often go there march or October, weather is usually better in October. Lovely mid to late 20’s in day time and high teens at night.

Menorca - we went last half term and it was still warm enough to sit and sunbathe most of the time. It was a bit cool to be in the pool but too hot to go hiking during the day. It is the very end of the season though so a lot of things are already packed up for the winter - so don’t expect loads of entertainment.

I always find October half-term in Europe very variable weather wise. We always have a brilliant time, but our trips are usually sightseeing focussed rather than entirely beach focussed. We were definitely in jeans and jumpers in Istria Croatia. Conversely it was warm, sunny and we were swimming in the sea in Italy the following year, but was colder than 20 in the evening. The year we went to Paris it was really warm, but last year it was barely 20 degrees in Florence. Canary Islands are not our thing, but I would consider Barbados. It is wet season, but it will be much warmer than everywhere in Europe, average October rainfall is not a ridiculous amount and as an island it's off the usual hurricane path. I would also contemplate Egypt or Oman, but these are fairly close to the currently unpredictable unrest in the Middle East.

Mauritius

Seychelles

Caveat: I haven't actually been but those two destinations are on my top list for October holidays. October is a very tricky month worldwide

Maybe the Malaga area or coast south of the city. But it's down to luck with the weather and your personal temperature tolerance. We generally holiday in shoulder season and there's been many a time when DP has happily sat outside in the evening in a t shirt and I've got a maxi dress on with leggings underneath and a hoodie over it and I've still been cold.

Abu Dhabi. Beautiful and warm, very safe

Mammamookin · 17/08/2026 14:20

We are just back from Abu Dhabi, loads to do and it’s hot hot hot!!

Mirrorxxx · 17/08/2026 14:24

we went to South Africa last week October/first week November last year and it was 25-35 every day

BIWI · 17/08/2026 15:00

We used to go to Barbados in October half term. The odd sudden downpour, but always beautifully warm.

Oman?

That has just moved into the US's focus and Trump is threatening to bomb.

The Middle East is not really an area you can make holiday plans for, I would very thoroughly check travel insurance cover.

OP - I found Lanzarote and Cyprus great during the day, even with the odd day of rain but when the sun goes down it was definitely "grap the cardigan" temperatures.

I would look at the Caribbean islands which are outside the hurricane belt
