Heat in October half term

Can I get some recommendations on where to go in October half term please?

I’m looking for heat, not just in the day but also in the evening, as a highlight of a holiday is sitting outside in the evenings for dinner and after the kids have gone to bed, and not needing a jumper - so for me it needs to be at least 21 at night.

I’ve considered:
Cyprus - been, not warm enough at night
Turkey - same
Sri Lanka - not been, apparently rainy and thunderstorms in October?
Thailand - is this too far to travel?

Where else could we go?

Is lanzarote hotter than tenerife?

hourspassed · 14/08/2026 21:45

Canary Islands

North Africa, either Egypt or Morocco
Cape Verde
Portugal is often nice in October

If you want to fly long haul then you have loads of other options though you may have rain too - thinking of Caribbean or Bahamas.

Very similar I'd say, possibly Lanzarote or South Tenerife. North Tenerife is not usually as hot as the south.

Thanks all!
Looks like Tenerife and Lanzarote night temps average high teens in October and November so might be a bit cold for me.

Happy to fly long haul, and happy to have SOME rain.

I know absolutely nothing about Cape Verde or Abu Dhabi, will have a look at those.

biggestcatmom · 14/08/2026 22:18

I was in Cyprus the last 2 weeks of October last year and it was boiling in the day and still warm at night

PashaMinaMio · 14/08/2026 22:21

South Africa?
Kruger National Park for the wildlife?
SA is cheap as chips for exchange rates.

Egypt is still hot but more bearable than earlier in the year we've booked holiday village red sea for next Oct and can't wait .

I haven’t been to Tenerife that time of year so can’t say, sorry.

Craycraycatbaby · 15/08/2026 07:49

I’ve been to Lanzarote the last two October half terms and never needed a jumper, it was boiling day and night. We are doing Cyprus this year and now you have me worried 😂

We went to Madeira in October last year. It was lovely and warm. I sometimes wore a cardigan in the evening but we were swimming and on sunliungers or sightseeing during the day. I’d like to go back. We go to Barbados from November onwards, but it’s not really necessary in October - unless you’d like to as it is fabulous. You could also consider Sicily which will still be warm.

Deathinvegas · 15/08/2026 08:53

I’d pick Malta.

Maybeitllneverhappen · 15/08/2026 08:56

Red sea, Egypt, or if you like history try Luxor.
