Stuck on what holiday this year with menopause

peebles32 · Yesterday 15:56

Early 50’s and not coping with the heat as in full blown menopause so beach holiday out. I still have a15 and 10 year old so need to accommodate them. I feel shattered so want an easy holiday and want to relax but need something for the kids. Some culture and some relaxation Any ideas? Either UK or Europe.

Scilly Isles would be perfect.

Cruise to the Fjords

You should go to cavtat in Croatia. Beautiful island town. You can catch ferry to Dubrovnik (40 mins) for the culture aspect. Stunning location. Water so clear you can see the fish.

I’m off to Dubrovnik soon, it’s going to be 30 degrees… I think OP wants something temperate.

Agree with Scandinavia. I went to Stockholm with young adult DS and had a great time.

We’ve also had 30 degrees today..

Germany - anywhere is plenty to do, it's easy to get a decent size apartment and you can cook or go out for each meal.

Plenty of public funpools, lidos, cities with things to do, outdoor activities.

Like the idea of Croatia but still hot! I honestly get so grumpy!

Germany gets hot too! Iceland has plenty to see and do. Norway but it’s expensive. A cruise maybe? Sweden is great for touring too. We always enjoyed Normandy and Brittany - great food!

Twirlywirly25 · Yesterday 16:41

The Netherlands? There are several Center parcs type places there. Also some are on the coast where it can be a bit cooler.

usernames756 · Yesterday 16:54

Amsterdam is hot as hell..

Iceland.

Poland? Baltic coast is nice.

Hypercatalectic · Yesterday 21:51

The French Alps are wonderful in summer, cooler than sea level, amazing scenery and food. All the ski resorts are open and the ski lifts make getting to the top of the mountains easy 😆 Lots to do like rafting, hiking, mountain biking.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Yesterday 22:53

@peebles32 I still get too hot and I’m 70. We liked Canada and Alaska with dc!

Latenightreader · Yesterday 22:58

Belgium is a family favourite. Very easy to get to by Eurostar, excellent public transport, lots of interesting things to do, nice coastal areas and good food! We've stayed in Ghent, Bruges and Brussels and enjoyed them all, but Ghent is our favourite.

HRT if you haven’t got on it yet do, symptoms stopped within a week. Off to a lovely AI in southern Europe soon!

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · Today 08:55

HRT would sort all that out, including the grumpy part.

How about sticking with the UK but going upmarket? Eg St Mawes has a great big beach, Fowey has a small beach but is just lovely both have posh hotels. Talland Bay Hotel near Polperro - there are amazing restaurants in Polperro and Looe. Or look at Fistral or Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay.

I don't think anywhere in Europe is guaranteed cool at the moment, or it soon won't be.

Would suggest anywhere you go is reachable by train!

reluctantbrit · Today 09:15

If you go to the Alps it may be hot but it's a very different one to Spain/Greece. The same with the Baltic or North Sea coast in Germany.

Northern Germany is similar to the south coast of the UK with the difference that the houses have decent outside roller blinds which means the rooms can be kept cool.
We had an apartment for a week in Berlin when it was nearly 30 degrees each day and managed to keep the bedrooms cool.

I went to Denmark in August about three years ago it was freezing! Not sure if it was just a one off awful week but I needed a coat! Denmark is brilliant though, so clean and very friendly people, felt really safe.

In Germany Lake Constanz is often described as the warmest part of Germany and it's rare to have bad weather.

Well, the year we went we had plenty of rain and a low of 17 degrees, I think I bought some jumpers. We also had really nice and warm weather but the couple of days I could have done without.

RampantIvy · Today 17:37

Azores
Madeira - it isn't just old people who go there.

The climate in the mid Atlantic is much more temperate.

North! Scotland in a cottage on a northern island.

palranom · Today 17:55

Brittany, Normandy, coastal Netherlands and Belgium.

Northern Spain is fantastic. San Sebastian for example. Not a hot place usually!

Good idea. Explore some landscapes and ancient monuments in Orkney/Shetland/Outer Hebrides

OneNewEagle · Today 18:17

I live in the se, every summer is unbearable as I don’t like heat. If I could I would go to Scotland to cool down for a week.
