Air BNBs - do you usually have to strip bed?

Just looking for others experiences? When staying in an Air BNB are you normally told to strip the beds at the end of your time? Is this an Air BNB thing? Currently in a place for a week costing nearly 1000 .

I always strip the bed in a rental, Air BnB or not. It’s just polite.

Chemenger · 04/05/2026 14:35

It was common in Covid times but I haven’t had to do it for a while.

RoseField1 · 04/05/2026 14:35

No, I have an Airbnb and I don't ask anyone to strip beds. It's fine if they do (though the last lot turned the duvet cover the right way out and buttoned it up!! Who does that before washing?!) and I question whether they are doing it to check the mattress topper and pillows are clean (they are) but expecting it is beyond reasonable in my opinion.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 04/05/2026 14:36

@VioletandMauve why is it polite? Do you do this in hotels as well?

I think the cleaning fee covers the costs and it wouldn't occur to me. But I have never been asked to strip beds except in Haven style caravan places.

I butten up before washing so it doesn't all ball up ibto each other if that's what you meant.

Re op, no I don't if there is cleaning fee, I tidy as I would in hotel etc, and that's it. I use airbnb so rarely nowadays. I had one who had list of cleaning to do while charging cleaning fee and we ended up in argument when I said they need to pick one.

redskyAtNigh · 04/05/2026 14:40

I think it varies but in my personal experience more don't ask you to strip than do.

As I'd leave the bed tidy (sheets and duvet pulled up) anyway, I don't find it really any more bother to strip the bed completely. I'd put it in the same category as wiping crumbs off the worktop.

AppleKatie · 04/05/2026 14:42

I do it if asked without being bothered but more than half don’t ask so I don’t in those.

ChopstickNovice · 04/05/2026 14:42

I hate being asked to clean AND being asked to pay a cleaning fee. I don't mind tidying, loading dishwasher and putting it on etc, but once place I was in asked for:

-bed to be stripped
-all floors to be thoroughly swept
-rugs beaten outside

Can't have your cake and eat it!

AppleKatie · 04/05/2026 14:42

I don’t leave the bed tidy I leave it obviously slept in so it definitely gets changed 😂

GrandHighPoohbah · 04/05/2026 14:47

I don't if they're charging an additional cleaning fee. I always load dishwasher, take out rubbish, wipe surfaces, collect used towels in the bath and sweep the kitchen floor. That's plenty as far as I'm concerned.

Bookaholic73 · 04/05/2026 14:47

I’ve been a cleaner for various companies, including Air BnB.
I strip all beds, collect all and leave in a pile. I also collect all the used towels and put them in the bath. I empty all bins and recycling and put them in an appropriate place.

NannyOf8Girls · 04/05/2026 14:56

I always do...it helps the mattress to air...but I'm an overthinker lol..

Delatron · 04/05/2026 19:30

Not if I’m paying a cleaning fee and to be honest this is why I stay in hotels. I hate having to get up early, strip 4 beds and clean a house in the last day of my holiday.

It should be the job of the cleaners - not the guests. It’s a cheeky ask.

I load the dishwasher and wipe down surfaces.

holidaygall · 04/05/2026 19:42

I don't mind doing it - it just seems it's a bit cheeky when you are paying large amounts. I don't think I saw a breakdown of costs as it was on booking com then to Airbnb.

We strip the beds, wipe round the kitchen, put dishwasher on and put used towels etc in the bath. Not cleaning but being respectful, surely?

CakeJumper · 04/05/2026 19:49

It’s just polite to do it and is usually well-received by the host even if they don’t request it. I always get positive feedback for doing it so I’ll continue.

Also, nobody really wants to handle someone else’s dirty bedsheets. It’s just a small courtesy.

Roselilly36 · 04/05/2026 19:49

Unless asked I wouldn’t strip the bed. But I would leave the accommodation clean and tidy, all rubbish removed etc.

How is it "respectful" to strip a bed?

Do you clean the loo too?

Why pay a cleaning fee?

Yeahyeahyeahnooooo · 04/05/2026 19:56

This is why I will never book an Air Bnb again. The requirements have been getting more and more, whilst paying a fee. The last one wanted rubbish taken out, recycling sorted, beds stripped, surfaces wiped, fuck that! I've come to holiday, not to do housework.

7238SM · 04/05/2026 19:58

NO- I don't strip beds unless its one of the listed things I must do (in addition to already paying a cleaning fee! )

The last time I stayed in an AirBNB it was freezing so I had to find the spare duvets in the cupboard. They had no covers and I left them on top of the bed. One comment they left me was I'd left it in a messy state and the spare duvets has been used with no covers! 🙄

Thetreesaregreeninspring · 04/05/2026 19:59

I always do it, it doesn’t take long and I want a good review.

That's what I've always done and it would never occur to me not to do so. As you say, it's just being respectful.

baddayformeredith · 04/05/2026 20:00

I run airbnbs and never ask anyone to strip the beds. We ask guests to leave it as they found it, i.e. tidy all crockery away, lock windows etc. we do ask people to bag their rubbish and recycling to put in the wheelie bins and leave towels one place

sallymonella · 04/05/2026 20:03

I've never stripped the beds. I've never been asked to. I don't understand why you would if you're paying for a cleaner?

lljkk · 04/05/2026 20:06

i stay in a lot of airbnbs, it's rare I'm asked to strip a bed
