If you had 6 weeks to travel next Summer (2027) where would you go?

We are likely going to be able to do this, not certain yet but starting to think of ideas if we are lucky enough!

2 adults, a teenage boy and a 12 year old girl. Good travellers but also kids and prone to a strop in intense heat 😂

Have seen a lot of Europe but would happily return maybe for a big road trip taking in 3 or 4 countries at 10 days per country.

Or would consider maybe long haul. Japan has been on the wish list for a while but given the humidity that tume of year have been advised against it.

Have also been in last couple of years to Canada & South Africa. Would avoid UAE & America at the mo for obvious reasons although things may be different there by then. UAE would be too hot though regardless.

Scandanavia and Northern Europe.

Are your kids willing to go for 6 weeks? I had the same opportunity when mine were similar ages and they didn’t want to leave their friends and hobbies for that long

26inprogress · 12/04/2026 16:05

We went to Japan last summer and it was humid but not unbearably so.
how about South America? It’s a great time of year for Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia? Very exciting!
or you could go to Indonesia and travel around, maybe coming back via the right side of Malaysia to avoid the monsoon?

Yeah they are mad to go! Their hobbies aren't on during summer and they will still have 4 weeks when we return with friends (we are in Ireland, they get 10 weeks hols)

Scandanavia and Northern Europe.

Thats a good suggestion too. DH spends alot of time in Scandinavia with work so probably not keen. I have been to Finland, Sweden and Denmark myself in recent years. Its also very expensive to eat out etc so probably rather a cheaper option but those places are expensive to get to so its all about weighing up the pros and cons!

Interrailing across Europe would be fun

ramonaquimby · 12/04/2026 16:26

Vietnam and Cambodia

Oz. Apparently a very positive vibe which would be a refreshing change!
You definitely need as long as you can get because of the distance.
Also good for either child wanting to do a gap year experience or later on..They could rule it in or out.

Nowvoyager99 · 12/04/2026 16:31

Canada?

unhappybutunsureofwork · 12/04/2026 16:32

We travelled round in a campervan and a car , family of five ( kids ages 21/19/15 ) round Eastern Europe- Bosnia / Hungary/ Croatia / Slovenia - had a fantastic time.

zantez · 12/04/2026 16:33

Don't want to be Debbie Downer, but it might be wise not to book anything until the situation in Middle East is resolved as much as it can be, for obvious reasons that you don't need me to explain!

So for that reason, I think I'd do a road trip in Europe or Interrail. Ferry from Cork to Roscoff or Dublin/Rosslare to Cherbourg. The world is your oyster after that. Half the fun is planning a route either North/South or East/West from the arrival port. Chat GPT can give pointers depending on what you like to do etc.

Gonegrey31 · 12/04/2026 16:36

Argentina and Chile , road trip to explore Patagonia in full and other great places in both countries

Savvysix1984 · 12/04/2026 16:59

I would do Canada or South America. You should watch race across the world as it gives you a good insight into different places.

I completely agree. We are just at the 'fantasising' phase! Lol not booking anything until the end of this year probably until we see whats possible in the world safety wise and also what we can manage financially

Yes, its just so expensive when you are there though but we do have family there so it is an option

You just need to be mindful of seasons in both places, the only places that will pretty much def be dry in Thailand are Samui, Koh Tao and Ko Phang an. In Vietnam the central area so Hoi An etc should be ok. Both fab places and if you don’t mind a bit of rain/ uncertain weather it would be fab ( and reasonably cheap!)

You would have to go North though for the weather as it's winter. We went last year to Cairns. Just for 10 days though. It was reasonably warm- late 20s maybe the odd 30. Too cool for my preferences but quite acceptable. SO much to do and see. 6 weeks you could do a fair bit of travel also.

But my first thought was a road trip through Europe.

Caspianberg · 12/04/2026 19:02

I would go Asia. Vietnam and Cambodia

As Europe you can do also on short trips but to explore Vietnam etc you really need weeks as it’s such a long country

But otherwise a European road trip. Fly into Zagreb and work your way across Croatia, Slovenia, northern Italy, into south france and back up to Brussels or Amsterdam to finish. You could stay approx a week in different areas.
