If you had 6 weeks to travel next Summer (2027) where would you go?

We are likely going to be able to do this, not certain yet but starting to think of ideas if we are lucky enough!

2 adults, a teenage boy and a 12 year old girl. Good travellers but also kids and prone to a strop in intense heat 😂

Have seen a lot of Europe but would happily return maybe for a big road trip taking in 3 or 4 countries at 10 days per country.

Or would consider maybe long haul. Japan has been on the wish list for a while but given the humidity that tume of year have been advised against it.

Have also been in last couple of years to Canada & South Africa. Would avoid UAE & America at the mo for obvious reasons although things may be different there by then. UAE would be too hot though regardless.

Personally I would love to do New Zealand, a bit of Australia and then the Pacific Islands. But I think Asia would be great also!

South America. You could spend 6 weeks in Brazil, but I’d start in Colombia, work south to Ecuador, go through Peru, which is incredible, hit Bolivia for the salt pans, hop to Brazil.

You might find that you won’t have enough time really! You’ll wonder why you’ve never been before.

we are both teachers and do extended long haul every summer since kids were little and with that amount of time and your desire to not overheat I’d definitely go to South America. Vietnam etc are hot; Indonesia is a good temp in our summer tho if you do end up in far east.

With six weeks tho I’d go Buenos Aires, down to patagonia, up through Chile to Peru and Bolivia, and if you have time onto Ecuador to end in the Amazon (it’s best in Ecuador). You can do that in six if you have a high tolerance for overnight buses or you can fly from BA to Ushuaia (much fun to have snow in midsummer) and then fly up to Santiago in chile- distances in Patagonia are massive if you don’t like overnight bus.

We had a similar timeframe in the summer of 2024 with our then 14, 16 and 18 year olds. We did Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia. Such an amazing trip, flights were expensive to get there and back but accommodation, spending costs and internal travel was such good value. Would highly recommend.

Since you are ruling out the US, which would be an awesome option, I’d do Eastern Europe interrailing finishing with Greek island hopping.

South America? Or another direction entirely, the Philippines, plus Singapore. Great for island hopping, amazing beaches etc. I’d consider India too, northern is cooler and Nepal

It’s monsoon though isn’t it?

We looked at skiing in Ushuaia, but in the end didn’t get that far south. Did you find Patagonia ok in our summer?

Clearinguptheclutter · 12/04/2026 20:48

Thailand/malaysia/singapore would be fab

personally thougy with teenagers I’d go interrailing round europe. Especially Italy with the alps en route

scandinavia is amazing but so expensive

I love Patagonia and have spent a while there pre kids so it was very nostalgic for me and well worth the extra effort! You can’t really trek in July/august but that’s fine because our kids were 10 and 8 anyway; they did skiing and Ushuaia is just a gorgeous place to spend time. Worth it. And internal flights in Argentina good value (or they were; prices in Argentina totally depend on where they are in the inflation cycle)

I would love to sail round the Caribbean in a tall ship visiting the island haunts of pirates.
Always fancied Madagascar.
Friends of ours travelled to Turkey with two youngish teenagers. They travelled by bus and train stopping off along the way. The teenagers were in charge of working out the route and organising train tickets. They wanted to prepare them for travelling independently later on.
When my DH has had his knee replacement we are planning a month travelling around Scotland in a camper van. I particularly want to revisit the outer Hebrides, I went on a biology field trip for Alevels and it was magic. Very “ Local Hero” with batshit crazy locals thrown in. We saw so much wildlife including basking sharks. Watched the local farmer swim cattle across to the island and were special guests at a Keli. Most of the islands are now connected by causeways allowing easier access.

Everyone I know seems to be doing Japan at the moment and Thialand is turning into the new Zante for teenagers.

Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Indonesia (or pick some of these)

Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia. With Galapagos if budget permits.

JustMarriedBecca · 12/04/2026 21:15

Into Vietnam, through Cambodia into Thailand, down through Malaysia and out of Singapore.
I would have a look at student travel company routes like Interpid and Stubborn Mule for ideas.

fruitypancake · 12/04/2026 21:15

Thailand

You can def spend 6 weeks in Indonesia alone, but it’s bloody hot!
