I’m looking for some inspiration and thought I’d ask here. Me, DH and DS age 15 are hoping to go on a much needed holiday for a few nights, just after DS completes his national 5 exams (Scotland) and before school returns from study leave.
Is there anywhere your teen loved that you would recommend. We need to fly from Glasgow or Edinburgh which limits us a bit.
We love London but we’ve been lots of times and maybe would fancy somewhere with a bit more guaranteed sun and slightly more relaxing as I think DS might be knackered after his exams.
I’m wondering about Palma-I love it but worried DS might be a bit bored. Thanks

What kind of things does your DS enjoy?

E.g. would a weekend of museums and archaeological sites be his dream trip or worst nightmare?

How about looking at flights first I always use an app called Kiwi, has a great way of searching for anywhere from your designated airports and dates then look for an airbnb.

Malaga is lovely for a long weekend/ break.

Catcatcatcatcat · 24/03/2026 20:03

Krakow. Perfect

OnlyFrench · 24/03/2026 20:05

Porto? It’s my answer to everything! Very relaxed, great food, you can get the tram up to the beach.

Savonne · 24/03/2026 20:06

What does he like? Architecture? Barcelona. History? Rome. And so on.

sociableintrovert123 · 24/03/2026 20:09

Thanks all. @Imtoooldforallthisthat app is exactly what I need! I feel I miss destinations when I use booking.com or Jet2 city break finders for example. I don’t know where I want to go and would love inspiration.
My DS loves food, films, culture, nice surroundings etc but probably not that into endless museums.
Malaga is definitely on my radar.
Krakow-I’ll check it out.
thanks

I think Barcelona could be fab! His Spanish teacher in school put him off though by saying it’s too touristy now. I went years ago and loved it.

Malaga is lovely. Also perhaps consider some areas in the Algarve - Lagos, for example. Seville is an all time favourite of mine.

bittertwisted · 24/03/2026 20:19

Budapest

Rome?

sociableintrovert123 · 24/03/2026 20:24

I would LOVE to go to Seville but not sure if my DS would like it.

Rome feels like being on a film set plus you can visit a film set:

https://cinecitta.com/en/visit/

Plus pizza, colosseum, pasta, Sistine chapel, ice cream, trevi fountain, mooching around stylishly surrounded by beautiful architecture.

It's not too hot yet in May.

Thanks @decorationday Rome could be lovely!

I’m loving the thought of Rome but wondering if it will be too crowded. We went years ago and I’m still stressed at the thought of being herded like cattle with thousands of other tourists through the Sistine chapel. I think we could miss out the big tourist sights though to avoid the crowds.
@OnlyFrenchPorto looks beautiful and we can fly with EasyJet. It wasn’t on my radar at all. Do you think a teenager would like it?

My friend went to Rome last Easter and said the crowds spoilt it , they prebooked all the tickets they wanted over here before leaving but despite that the queues were vast .

NobodysChildNow · 25/03/2026 12:37

I’d fly EasyJet from Edinburgh to Basel, get the special bus direct from Basel to Rust and spend three days/ nights in EuropaPark! It’s fabulous

sociableintrovert123 · 25/03/2026 12:42

@NobodysChildNowthat looks fun but my DS really isn’t into theme parks so don’t think he’d be up for that (I would though!)

sociableintrovert123 · 25/03/2026 12:43

@hattie43that’s what I’m reading online too. I think we’ll all need to chill out after his exams and perhaps a crowded Rome isn’t for us.

I'd definitely recommend Malaga (city) it's got everything!

Anjelika · 25/03/2026 12:49

I'd recommend Cavtat in Croatia. Right next to Dubrovnik airport and you can get a boat to Dubvovnik from there for the day. Cavtat is a fairly quiet but pretty town with a plenty of restaurants.

Alldressedup · 25/03/2026 12:54

Our favourites have been Berlin, Venice and Munich. We’re not a museum family either but all 3 have so much to see and do.

OnlyFrench · 25/03/2026 16:03

Mine certainly would have done. It’s a place you can just wander around without doing too much, very Instagram friendly 😁.
